Spring Gully Green Tomato Pickle

is the best tasting pickle/chutney I have ever had. Tastes just like homemade. We enjoy it with our nibblies platter (cheeses, pates, dips, etc) every Saturday night. In fact it was on here many moons ago that someone recommended it and so I bought my first jar - great recommendation, whoever you were!

So it was with abject panic that I heard on the radio yesterday that Spring Gully Foods, a good old Aussie company, has gone into administration. :_|

I don't think I can live without Spring Gully Green Tomato Pickle in my life, so I would be ever so grateful if everyone reading this could go out and buy a jar today. Or tomorrow 😄 Then hopefully they can trade out of this and keep on making "my" pickle.

I am going to go and clear out my local supermarket shelves of it this week, but I can't buy a lifetime supply as obviously it has a use-by date. So I just cannot afford to let this company go out of business and stop making this pickle, my very existence is at risk. Yes, it is, it really is that good. Also very yummy on cold lamb sandwiches.

I know this is a third world problem. Don't care, it really is delish.

That's bad news. I use their Worcestershire sauce, don't like other brands. I make my own chutneys etc., but will try the one you like.

Pretty sure I've bought them at Coles, too.

Normally on the bottom shelf in the pickles section of both Woolies and Coles (probably why they don't sell so much, being on the bottom shelf).

In hindsight, of course it doesn't really matter which product of theirs you buy, I guess, as long as they can stay in business.

I'll get a bottle of their wooky sauce as well.

It is a shame when the smaller producers making quality food products have trouble making a profit, mostly because the big brands undercut them on price with their inferior products.

The brands have to pay for a place on the top shelves don't they?... more cost for the top shelf, so big brands are often at the top.

slices of spiced gouda cheese topped with spring gully tomato pickle

Hey, that's great news, Chuk. I hadn't realised that they actually went into administration a month or two ago, only heard it on the news a couple of days ago. It's terrific that Aussie seems to have really got behind them to get them through this. Hope it continues.

Youcandoit, your feast sounds delish - so glad you liked the pickles, they're really good, aren't they? I had forgotten to mention that they were gluten free - it doesn't affect me at all, but I know a lot of people avoid gluten in their diets, so yes, would be a good addition to the gluten free section.

Pimpy, haven't heard of Pops tomato sauce - is it a thick sauce (i.e., like a ketchup sauce) or just good tasting regular sauce? In New Zealand they make the most delicious tomato sauce in the entire galaxy - Whitlocks Tomato Chutney Sauce. It's a very thick ketchup type sauce and is the most scrummy tommytoe sauce I have ever tasted.

Whenever anyone visits me from NZ they have to bring over a bottle! You can get it here in kiwi shops, but we don't have any close to me, so I have to suffer mostly with regular tomato sauce. Gee, life can be hard sometimes :^O

Get behind Australian companies. I don't even buy overseas olive oil any more. We have very good producers of olive oil in Australia.
