Ok, glad to hear that because earlier you said she would be an "outside dog". If the vet can't find anything wrong with her then perhaps she is still experiencing separation anxiety. I do hope she manages to settle down soon.

In the meantime, lots of love and affection and inclusion in her new pack, is my only suggestion.

but eventual "exile", eh?

Our new 'pup' (10 months) arrived a week ago and is settling in well. She seems happy and has stopped pining for her old family although every now and then there is a bit of wimpering if she can't see where we are.

She is drinking water but she isn't eating. The only thing we have managed to get into her is small bits of BBQ chicken skin (vets idea). That is in 7 days!

We called the breeder and apparently her companion (another female her age) also stopped eating but was back on her food by day 4.

Is there anything I can do?

My suggestion -

Try sitting out on the steps to the pups level and eat something yourself.

Something pup may like, perhaps lasagna or steak.

Get pup to sit and watch you eat then slowly offer pieces from your bowl.

Don't you have dogs kopes? Sorry, but that's the worst thing in the world to teach

a pup. Then you have s slavering dog looking at you every time you eat.

Begging you for food.

Try warming the food, that way the smell may entice.

Feed something that smells delicous, and make sure it is warm so the smell is stronger. The barbeque chicken sounds like a good start.
Have you tried a little raw chicken mince with gravy on top? (Not the dog variety mince as it has too many ground bones in it!)

Some dogs go nuts for cheese, others love bacon - mine will do just about anything for dried liver treats!

We have tried everything. Warming her food. Hand feeding her. Nothing.

The breeder said her favourite food was sardines but she won't even look at them. Tonight we made a creamy (gorgonzola) pasta thinking she might like the smell of that but she just sniffed it and walked away.

The BBQ chicken was the vets idea - apparently dogs can't resist. But she peels off the skin and leaves the rest.

She has only done one poo the whole time too...

The best advice I can offer is to buy good quality dog food such as 4Legs which our vet recommends and also dry dog food like Royal Canine or Advance for your dogs size.

Put out a small amount each morning and evening. If they don't eat it chuck it out and repeat until they get hungry. She will eat eventually. She won't starve herself to death.

Stawka, you are wrong about Kopes post. It is one way to get dogs eating but I think he meant offering pieces from her bowl. Our lovely dog never begs but he knows that sometimes he gets left overs if they are put in his bowl.

Hi i-need-a-martini,

sorry to hear your puppy is stressed and causing you worry.

I swear by;

TROY

'Nutripet'

High-Energy Vitamin Concentreate.

Your puppy will love the taste.

It will give the dog enough vitamins to supplement the missing diet but will make them hungry at the same time.

It costs about $30 per tube but it's worth every cent. I have it in the house all the time and my two dogs get some every day now they're geriatrics.

Good luck and I hope this helps. ♥

10 months old?

Many breeds like to have a job. Teach her to sit, and then reward her with a bit of cheese. Start with tiny amounts of food, that might stimulate her appitite.

Dogs do pine. It's very sad that your dog is missing her old pack. You will have to spend time bonding, and reassuring the dog that they are loved, and part of your pack.

On another note:

I've never had an outside dog. How much time do you spend outside? Is there a warm covered and comfortable area to sleep? Are there other animals out there to keep them company?

stawks, that's why you do it sitting outside on a step because you will never eat there.

I did it with mine and he knew he would only be hand fed when I went to the same spot.

Martini, the other obvious thing is pups chew and swallow some strange things, has an x-ray been done to see if there is a blockage?

Some strange things are found inside pups.

What breed is she? My dogs often go off food in hot weather. I just take away what is left after about 10 minutes, cover it and give it back next feeding time. My dogs' favorite kibble in this moment is Canidae with salmon, and their coats never looked so good. You could also get bit of mince meat and mix it raw or slightly cooked with the kibble. Also bit of shredded cheddar tends to get many dogs interested. But i find that once dog is not a little puppy they take quite a long time to totally settle down; it is a gradual process but often takes about 6 months.
