I do most of the flat pack assembly at our place.

Not that it's been much, a cpl of bookshelves and a telephone table with shelves, easy enough

One time we had to assemble a futon for a spare room, hubs helped me with that, but generally leaves it to me.

This morning I was driving to work I saw a handyman's van with FLAT PACK ASSEMBLY SPECIALIST emblazoned on it.

I know there's probably more complicated things to assemble than bookshelves, but really?

You can hire a specialist to do your flat pack assembly now?

Very enterprising.

Well maybe it's not such a bad idea - I used to do my own assembly and worked it out okay even though I'd always have a screw or two

over, lol ......... but now my knees just won't let me crawl all over the floor. Well the crawling is not the problem but the

getting up is.

I'm really bad with instructions putting cabnets and such together. If I try to go by the instructions, I'll mess it up. Without the instructions I fare better, but I still have to put it all out in front of me and study all the pieces for a while. When it starts to make sense, thats when I start putting it together.

Now if i'm building shelves with 1x8 lumber, I first write out my own instructions based on measurements and have no problem. Measure from the top on a dresser, desk, or cabnet to the celing, come down half a foot, then the length and and wala, slap in the plexiglas shelves.

That's where if you had been given a model kit as a child you would have gained valuable experience in using instructions. I have always been able to repair anything I own due to making model kits. Instructions are your friend. Couple of years ago I taught myself how to fix watches and clocks with a lever escape movement. I can't fix ones with a Swiss movement but you need a special press for them.
