A girlfriend of mine went to a tarot card reader in Qld last week who told her her dog which she adores would die soon.

I can't believe how cruel that is.

I've only had my cards read once years ago and she told me some amazing things, good things, all of which

came true.... amazing as she touched on some really personal things she couldn't have known about. She also told me that readers who give bad news are shonky. .

What do others think.

I have never had a tarot card reading but some year ago I went with 2 friends to have are palms read. I didn't surprise me that we all got never similar readings (because we were about the same ages), about weddings, births of children etc.

I think it depends on what her definition of "soon" means. A week, a month, 10 months ?? Of course her much loved dog is going to die. We all do 😞 & so do our pets. IMO I think if you are going to go to these people, you have to take what they tell you with a bit of indifference. Otherwise, you would believe everything they told you was actual Fact.

Yes I agree horizon....... my friend is very vulnerable at the moment due to personal circumstances and I don't think she should have risked going to the reader. We all want good news but you probably have to take the bad with the good. The fact is her dog is 10 and already diagnosed with a murmur. Otherwise the dog is healthy but anything can happen and the tarot reader said 'within 2 years' which to be honest sounds realistic to me. .

I don't know what to say to my friend except that she needs to take it with a grain of salt I suppose. .

Because Boxers get heart problems at 9 - 10 years and that's about as long as they last. GF's dog died last year after keeping it alive on drugs for a year (high quality of life though).

You give a hint a dog is 10 years old and you have a fair chance of being right.

Yes..... one cavalier of mine was diagnosed at 8, put on meds and lived until 16.

My other recently was diagnosed at 7 years and lived 3 months.

No knowing.

Pfffttt. I'd take it with a grain of salt.

I used to collect Tarot Cards - for the artwork - I've got about 7 decks packed away somewhere. What each card means depends on which deck your are using. There's a lot of variation. Also there's generally 78 cards in the deck with different meanings depending on how they are laid out (ie upside down or not) and even what pattern the reader uses to lay them out and the number of cards laid out....and don't tell me every tarot card reader always remembers what each card means (especially the minor arcana). I had a go a learning their meanings and in the end I came to the conclusion that as the person getting the reading probably wouldn't have a clue and would probably think the picture indicates the meaning, if I couldn't remember one of them it wouldn't make any difference. (And no I didn't do it for a living. And BTW the Death card means change, not necessarily death).

If your friend can remember which were the 'bad cards' and identify the deck used on the internet she might find the reader could have got it wrong, or was on some kind of power trip or whatever.

Someone I know also studied the tarot and once gave a reading to a work colleague at his request. He was surprised to find a lot of cards indicating serious relationship issues because from all indications that marriage was rock solid. But apparently it wasn't. They split up soon afterwards. Was the reading correct....or did the cards spur the colleague on to admit it wasn't working and leave? You be the judge.

If this is REALLY bothering your friend...suggest she take the dog to the vet for a checkup.

Having had a dog that was a constant companion for 17 years, which i also adored, i might be worth your friend mentally starting to prepare anyway.

Mine had a turn at about 12, then got better and from then on, i said that as long as she had quality of life,
I was happy. She lasted another 5.5 years and had a great and active life to the end.

It had helped that i had mentally thought it through when i happened.

It also meant I didn't keep her too long, something the vet commented on.

Thanks for the explanation Zanadoo. Me.... I'm sort of open minded but sceptical. I do think if you're told certain things it can become a self-fulfilling prophesy. (if that's the expression) t. I also think to be a good tarot reader you'd need maybe years of

study?

My friend is rather gullible and it's only because she's so low at the moment that she went in the hopes of getting

Yes I know what you mean aps. With my last little dog who was diagnosed with cancer and given 4 weeks to live I

vowed the minute he showed pain or suffering I would do the deed, but he lived a quality life for the next 3 months

and went down quickly. One day he was fine and the next phtttt and I knew I had to make that hateful journey.

Re my friend she really is in total denial that her dog will eve rdie. I don't see her coping at all, but what

can you do.

What can you do. Work on her. She needs to prepare or she will crash
And it will affect other parts of her life.

It could take years of study, but it also depends on what deck you use. Some of them are pictorial enough to make them easy to remember or to at least give you clues as to their meaning. Or if you simply have a good memory when learning about them that's even better. (I found it fairly the easy to remember the meanings of the major arcana, but the minor arcana....not so much).

As for pets and life expectancy...you never know and I'd be VERY sceptical that a fortune teller would know when they'd never seen the pet. I lost my previous cat to cancer - she was 16 which was a good age. The thing is, she had an overactive thyoid and was getting regular blood tests are more examinations besides, one of which was only one month before the diagnosis and one where if she'd had cancer then it should have shown up (according to the vet). So even the vet didn't know. I can't speak for dogs (I haven't owned one in years) but once a cat is seriously ill, you've tried everything and it can't or won't eat, the hard decision has to be made.

How old is your friend's dog? Is age an issue? I hope your friend doesn't dwell on this tarot reading. The trouble with fortune tellers is they are so sure they are right.....even when they get it wrong. To do the job you need to have faith in your predictions, but having faith is a nebulous thing. You've only got to look at the number of them that come out of the woodwork in the new year with all kinds of claims.....and at the end of that year it can be amusing to look back and see how wrong they could be. - and that's just the famous ones that regularly appear on TV and in magazines.

To me, reading tarot cards is NOT telling the future. It is giving the person whose cards are being read some information that THEY can interpret as they choose. It's showing them options.

Depending on the format used in laying out the cards, in one method there is at least one card that is designated 'What lies ahead'.

In other card arrangements more cards may or may not be used for that purpose. Unless the sitter knows what the cards mean and can make their own interpretations, then it all depends on how the tarot reader delivers the message. Some certainly make claims the cards fortell the future. *shrugs*

That makes sense. Trouble is there are so many shonks out there who haven't a clue and make money out of vulnerable

people.
