A weekend in Adelaide

I will be there is 2 weeks with my 13 year old daughter for a girly weekend. Staying in the city near the gallery and we will be walking every where. I haven't been for about 8 years.

So need some ideas.

Best place for breakfast?

Cool places for dinner?

Trendy shops?

in 8 years nothing much has changed 🙂

sorry cant help much I hate the city and only go if i absolutely have to. Being in the city you are surrounded by shops and the east end is full of cafes and restaurants. Catch a tram to the bay maybe? Go to the beach house there and there a heap of places to eat there too

Bite my lip. ouch !!! Your ID may give you a clue ??? LOL 🙂 I would take a Bottle of Gin & just go for it. Just joking, have a great "girly time" with your daughter. Someone who lives there may shed some great ideas.

a whole weekend in Adelaide? what are you going to do for the other day and a half?

There's a great market in the middle of Adelaide. Catch the free tram down to the beach - there's some nice shops and cafes there. Go and see the pandas. I find Adelaide like a big country town and always enjoy staying there.

Tram isn't free to the beach. It is free between South terrace and the entertainment centre. I was in Adelaide, well an outer suburb. For Christmas. It is not like the old days. Businesses close and change very quickly now, so things do actually change just not so noticeable to those that aren't that observant

Yeah, it is exactly like a country town. If a country town had a population of over a million. Heaps if country towns do and if that country town had all the infrastructure of a city. City traffic. A major international airport. I bet most of the people that live in country towns are glad that they don't have the title of the most serial killings

Anyway martini, the tram to Glenelg (whether you pay or not) is a good trip to a nice beach with good shops and cafes. It is free around the city.

Maybe I should have said the atmosphere is like a country town but I think ,ost would realise that.

Enjoy your weekend with your daughter - I'm sure you will enjoy Adelaide.

I was born in Adelaide and love it...

So many things to do, if you can get the bus to Norwood Parade, very cosmopolitan, lots of shops, plenty to see.

Beaches, art gallery, gardens, etc.

Id go to the Museum, The Zoo and Rundle Mall on day 1

Catch a tram to Glenelg on day 2

Lots of great places to eat in the city and at Glenelg

The free red and blue bus service is a good way to get around.

There is a stop in North Tce near the library and museum.

I think North Adelaide may be worth a look, quite upmarket and trendy, lots of outdoor eateries and shops and an easy 15 minute ride on those buses. They're a bit bumpy, the buses that is, but I found everyone in Adelaide helpful and super friendly.

And it was so green and clean. You will have a wonderful time!

Lucky you!! If you drive, you could hire a car, or borrow a bike(they are free to hire) theres quite a bit to see in different parts of the city...

Usually I stay in the City, so I know close to the city places...

I would go to the Art Gallery of SA- theres always something really good to see there..

The Botanic Garden as well- theres an amazing Australian Native Garden, and also, if you like roses, They have an International Rose Garden with thousands of roses- cant remember exactly how many but more that 3000.. Also, I like to visit the Glasshouses, I can easily spend a day looking around, having lunch there as well.

The Adelaide Central market is really great too, delicious food to taste, and the diversity of the cheeses, and wines will blow your mind..

I would check out North Adelaide and Norwood (I always try to visit Khai Liew, an amazing furniture designer in Norwood)

Great breakfasts at The Store in North Adelaide.In the city, Leigh St and Peel St are good for dinner, yum Tapas at Udaberri...(my mouth is watering at the memory..

Hi Martini;

I'm from Adelaide and I have the Entertainment Book, so if you would like the have a look online and see if there are any vouchers you would like, I'm more than happy to post them to you. I still have one for the Zoo, which is just lovely, the pandas are adorable. The old Adelaide Gaol is good too.

Eating wise, Adelaide is fabulous! Rundle Street in the East End (just off Rundle Mall) has TONS of good eating places and very trendy shopping. Don't forget to shout yourself some Haighs chocolates (King William St end of the Mall - Beehive Corner - just opposite the tram stop). Gouger St is fabulous for food as well, my personal favorite up there is Ky Chow, drooling just thinking about it.

If you are coming Australia Day long weekend, that is the end of Tour Down Under, so town will be pumping, lots on. The Moonlight Cinema will still be going in the Botanic Gardens and if you are so enclined, a tour of the new Adelaide Oval is well worth it. Glenelg is just lovely, accessible by the tram from the centre of town, lots of lovely places to eat down there.

Gouger St just around the corner from the Hilton Hotel for restaraunts.The bottom of Rundle St for more dining,coffee shops and girl watching :).The zoo,Botanical Gardens,Art Gallery and Museum are all within walking distance from the city centre.If you're driving you might want to visit Hahndorf:a little bit of Germany in the Adelaide Hills(30kms from the city)

We are specifially going for the exhibition currently at the gallery and we had planned to do the botanic gardens as I recall they had some magnificent areas. Didn't know about the rose garden though so will be keen to see that.

I don't remember Adelaide having a country town feel. And I am used to Sydney! Not sure why people say that...

And yes I will be munching my way through some Haighs lol.
