favorite garden plants

What are your favorite plants in the garden and why?

I have a fetish for Daylilies as they are easy to grow and the variety of blooms is amazing. My next favorites would be Agapanthus and Rainlilies

I have it on good authority that Bob Brown is very fond of the fairies at the bottom of his garden 🙂

Any plant I do not have to water to much.

I hate Agapanthus, they used to come up in the cracks of the concrete, hard to get rid of.

Roses ... easy to grow, dont need much water, tend to look after themselves most of the time

Geraniums, I lived in Darwin for 27 years and so missed being able to grow them

I have a lovely plant called Chenille Firetails.

It's flowers are soft like kitties tails. It takes a lot of abuse and

I cut it back heavily every winter. It's about 20 years old now

Not my pics - but about the same size plant

My MIL hated it for some reason

Gardinas and jasmin are both so beautiful for smell as well.I will live in hope my Agapanthus spreads seed lol
I guess its luck and weather in your area.Years ago I brought a walking iris and now I have them all over the place, pretty thing but lord it likes my yard it will grow everywhere if not weeded out every few months.very pretty flower but im a bit over its rampaging nature

I would love to have a climbing rose on an arbour , my gran had an amazing wild pink one that she got from down the back paddock.the origi al had been planted in the 1800s and was about 25m wide but even up near the house it just bloomed so much, no smell though

I love so many, it is hard to name just one. Because of bunch of destructive hounds, I do better with shrubs than smaller plants. I really love my Tamarix Petandra and for smell Philadelphus mexicanus, and my Cecile Brunner rose, which we found some 40 years ago deep under blackberries on property we bought, and every time we moved I took cutting with me. For shade I love my apricot and birches. Inside I have maiden hair ferns, and some cacti, and cane-stemmed Begonia, which just strive on neglect.

You can grow Geraniums anywhere. I have just sent a large parcel of cuttings to my daughter in Queensland. I live at the bottom ov Victoria with winter frosts. I have grown Geraniums in different places, even the center of Australia. Love the big variety of colours, the easy care and the long flowering seasons of Geraniums and Pelargoniums.

Geraniums are a great plant .Im always admiring the bright colours these days.I got a beautiful crimson color last year that I always admired in a local yard and it is thriving. Over at Bunnings I have seen some real beautiful ones in 2 tone .

I have very large Cane Begonias. I cut them right back in winter too.

They grow to about 5 metres high

Pieces of that you can stick straight back in the ground and it will grow.

This are my Ivy Geraniums. Ruby red and white double flowers. The little daysies interspersed are Erigeron that self seeded from the neighbours garden.

This is Firechief, an Angel Geranium. The colour is really bright orange red. Don't know what happened with the camera.

This is a pink miniature Geranium. Flowers almost all year round. I just recently took them out of the pots and planted them in the garden, and they have gone berserk. I can hardly see the leaves.

I love seaside daisies. They don't thrive here but they are so country garden. Other suburbs they do fine.

I love geraniums but am also a fan of daisy type flowers.....arctotis, daisies of all varieties, gazanias.

The plants that do well in my very hot courtyard are the cactus and succulents though.....they are spectacular when they flower.
