New York Blizzard

Rather than continue to take the thread further off course I thought I would post this link for people like myself who were interested in the plight of the homelless in extreme circumstances.

There was no blizzard to speak of....thank God.

One needs to live in Wyoming to realize that 65 MPH winds along with 3 feet of snow constitutes a blizzard. 🙂

Actually, there was. New York didn't get the accumulation that was expected, but New England--where I'm living--did. There's two feet of snow in my backyard that wasn't there yesterday. It fell at the rate of 1-3 inches per hour, producing dangerous white-out conditions and powerful winds. There was even snow thunder.

As for the homeless, efforts are made in my state at least to get them off the street and into shelters at all times of the year--not just during winter. Cases of homeless people freezing to death are really not that common even in New York. Not saying it doesn't happen. But certainly not to the extent you might fear. Problem is, a lot of the homeless are mentally ill, and resist all efforts to help them.

How so?, please be spiciffic and offer examples. Ohio has mild winters, we might get one or two really cold days, but not to the point where one might freeze to death. Maybe lose a toe or finger.

Suicide might be a bigger concern reguarding homeless folks. The idea that one is in pain, suffering and can do nothing about it and just want it to end.
