Our Goverment should invest in a pipeline to catch the rainwater from the Eastern Coastline to pipe it into the dry areas.

No but I went aquaplaning and fishtailing in my car this morning on the way to work, lol

Lots of traffic delays due to accidents.

I always wondered on the Gold coast why they did not have big tanks under the ground to catch the water.

Used to watch all this lovely water running down the drains, then a month later water restrictions.

We did have a tank for watering the gardens and topping up the swimming pool.

What lunacy! What about all those important fact-finding-missions to dangerous locations like Paris, Rome, London, Vienna, New York, and Brussels? Do you want our pollies to spend money on silly things like piping water? The fact that Australia, in 2015, hasn't been drought proofed is proof that we had/have the most useless bunch of alleged politicians in the world.

Gawd............youse guys sound like those cretins in Southern California who want to build a pipeline from the Columbia River to Los Angeles, so they can keep their golf courses green and swimming pools full.

It's not about Golf Courses, it's about thousands of hectars of Sheep, Cattle and Grain crops that get affected on a regular basis. Our Governement could have done something about it years ago.

And if you think we are such cretins, what are you doing on the Australian C S boards?

Not it isn't. A few big heavy rainfalls a year wouldn't justify the expense of a pipeline. They would be nothing to pipe for months on end.

Why not?

They can build intercontinental oil and gas pipelines. If you think gas and oil is more important than water, remember that gas and oil mining takes up huge amounts of water. Especially shale oil mining.

World's Longest Pipelines

Capturing rainwater and piping it to the dry inland to unlock fertile land there and keep our agriculture going is not the same as keeping golf courses green and swimming pools refreshed.

It would be a worthwhile infrastructure for the government to invest in and create employment.

Careful what you wish for Icy, we used to be fully self sustained in the Clarence Valley for water and in spite of Bob Carr saying there would be no inter-valley transfer of water we now have a dam and a pipeline to Coffs Harbour, oh and one more thing, water restrictions!

It's a funny (water)world.

They brought in restrictions in our area, we learnt to restrict. It became habit forming.

Then with dam capacity increasing, we were literally encouraged to start using more water, the income for the water authority was being affected. Profits were lower. Council wanted to reward us.

Wyong News - February 2012 Councillor Graham

"Our investment in the water supply system, along with improved water storage levels and our residents' commitment to applying water restrictions has positioned the region's water supply well," Cr Graham said.

"Now is the right time to reward our residents for their efforts by removing some of the restrictions that currently apply."

On a more serious note I agree with you it is a shame they put oil and gas before water, we have monsoons in the Top end every year and substantial rain on the easten seaboard yet that water gets wasted. If we had pipe lines to underground storage tanks we would have enough water for everyone, it would also mean main rivers will be able to flow all year round.

We haven't seen any rain here in SW of WA since before Christmas, and I don't think Perth has had any to speak of either. . Summer is always our dry season but this is ridiculous. Ant the bushfires have started. My granddughter had to leave her home in Baldivis (just south of Perth) last night - luckily all ws OK in the end - and there's fire currently burning out of control about 10 k from us here in Bunbury.

We had a drought here (NSW) for about 5-8 years not that long ago, no water to pipe anywhere else.
