They should not leave any dogs with them as they will only do it again. Mind you there is nothing to stop them from going out and buying a couple of breeding pairs and restarting the process.

At least these dogs should find good homes

As I understand, dog breeders need to be registered.

I hope at least random checks are carried out.

Amazing it reached such a stage, but better late than not.

Hopefully this will now spur some action on procedures for control.

Yes, pups should not be sold in pet shops or bred in puppy farms, all dogs should be microchipped before sold (pure bred registered pups are all done before their KC certificate is issued), BUT definitely not desexed. The hormones produced by testes and ovaries are essential for dogs to develop properly. It is the hormone surge in puberty that causes bones to calcify properly, the growth plates to close, animal to stop growing and mature mentally. There is now ample proof that pups desexed before maturity are much more likely to develop bone problems later on, including some very aggressive bone cancers. Large heavy bone breed dogs desexed early also are much more likely to develop hip dysplasia.

I am going to book my boxer dog in to be desexed in 2 wweeks she will be 11 months old.

Should I wait?

Post 8 that is correct kind of, it depends on the breed.

The only thing that depends on the breed is how soon they mature (come in season); no breed should be desexed at or before 8 weeks. Small breeds may not get problems with hips, but they can still have other problems, and considering that juvenile desexing has only been performed for very short period of time, it is too early to have any clear indication of all the problems. But anybody who understands how hormones produced by the testes & ovaries influence the development will tell you that it is asking for trouble. Only very few breeds come in season by 6 months, and I do not believe that any bitch should be spayed before 6 months.

I am not familiar with Boxer, as a breed; you would have to ask a breeder when do their bitches usually come in season. Unless boxers are extremely slow maturing breed, spaying at 11 months should be fine.

If I had a breed that is likely come in season at about 6 months, I would also recommend spaying by about 6 months 🙂 My breed is slow maturing; the earliest I had a bitch to come in season was 13 months, the latest one was 2.5 years, so I recommend to spay at about 12 months. Unfortunately, many councils now insist on pups being registered at 3 months, and will not accept registration without proof of desexing. They are setting themselves up for class actions, which will be paid for from our rates.:_|

Not correct. You can register any pup desexed or not - the only difference is the FEE $$$.
