Is it possible to dye vertical blinds?

I had a look on YouTube, but couldn't find anything.

Has anyone ever successfully changed the colour of their vertical blinds? How did you do it?

Maybe.

I've never heard of it being done but given they are something you never wash in theory you could paint a fabric paint on each panel.

virticles are usualy pvc so in thery they can be painted using polyscreen but unles you can spray them or have used polyscreen before its not a job i would recomend & would probably be cheaper to buy new ones

I am not sure what they are made of, but close inspection, it appears to be some sort of woven material. I can see fibres (or threads) at the bottom of one of the blinds where the plastic weight is inserted.

We have a window we are removing and replacing with bi-fold doors, so I think I might do some experimenting using various colour changing techniques, on the blind from it.

I just hoped someone might have some knowledge on it, and save me the trouble 😄

why not simply replace the blinds? you already have the tracks chain and weights that are the costly part. you can even but rolls of it and make them yourself.

Just chuck them and replace with something nice. Vertical blinds are awful. Cats and dogs get tangled up in them and the chains break. They swing around and get twisted. Chuck em.

You can get spray paint for fabrics and upholstery that would work.

The new ones don't have chains anymore.

I have never heard of anyone wanting to recolour/paint their vertical blinds.

The blades are cheap, buy some new ones in the colour you want. Check first, that the new ones will fit the hook things in the rail you already have.

Curtains/drapes would work better/look better with bi-folding doors wouldn't they?

I don't think you would be able to dye them ...but paint them yes.

Viponds make a product called tautflex that can be applied to leather and vinyl and canvas etc...

but it would be a costly excercise. If it is just a cosmetic fix on the inside view...until you can afford or decide on something else.. I would just paint them with interior house paint. As long as they don't heat up too much from the sun and don't close them up completely flat against each other (as they may stick).

We have HUGE windows and I priced the cost of wooden venetian blinds which is what I really really want, but looking at near $5K which I just don't have to spend on blinds to outfit the entire house.

We don't intend on covering the bi-fold doors, but I can experiment on the blind we take away from the window that is currently there.

Upholstery spray paint sounds like the go. I will look into that. Thank you 🙂

why not buy some fabric, cut into strips, hem the ends, starch them and hang them.?

I googled vertical blinds and nothing about dying them came up but washing them in the washing machine did. I wouldn't have thought of doing that. Roll them up together, hold them together with rubber bands, put in a pillowcase in the wash machine on delicate, 30deg or cold water. (front loader only?

Wouldn't be game to try that unless they were fairly old.

I saw one once that suggested you cut fabric of the right colour/design and use an iron on adhesive to apply to the old ones.

I wonder if an iron on laminate would work like that too?

I agree with this. They are the ugliest solution for windows that ever was invented. I bought a unit with them already installed, and almost before I put the keys down, I was up on a ladder dismantling these blinds.

That's a bit expensive for timber venetians. If you have a Spotlight store handy they do quite a good range of blinds including timber venetians at a not bad price.
