How safe is PayPal

Ok I am selling a caravan . I have someone wanting to buy and to pay. Through Paypal . Got a bit suspicious as I have heard all these scams with can't get there myself I am working away. Will get courier to pickup and for them to sign transfer. So I said ye ok will do once money and it clears she said she is fine with that . She asked for my PayPal details to send money so I said I would get PayPal to send her payment details and she was fine with that also. Scam jumps out at me . What does everyone think.

For pickup, cash only.

If they can't get it etc............ barge pole and ten foot pole come to mind.

Personally I would say cash only.

You will have no prove that the buyer received the goods, if they are trying to scam you.

I'd be looking at a bank cheque or a bank deposit into your account. Bank deposit is just as easy as PayPal.

If someone pays through PayPal using a credit card, they may be able to do a charge back through their bank.

even if they pay and you transfer funds it wont help you, the common scam is to use a stolen Credit card or claim the card was used fraudulently and they will get their money back from paypal and paypal will send the debt collectors after you.

they will will send you a fake paypal email looking like you have received funds, but there will be nothing in your actual account.

Just tell them you will accept cash after inspection as they also have no buyer protection and you certainly have no seller protection.

We have said that due to many Paypal Scams we will only accept direct bank deposits .

cash is best for a pick up items, just make sure its real money.

Funny there has been no reply since we said direct deposit. She was real quick when she wanted it through PayPal.

Do not accept paypal for a caravan....cash only on pickup after inspecting the item.

If you have been corresponding through emails just be careful of any phishing emails you may receive in future.

For the most part these scams are not about getting money or items for nothing but all about getting your details....they will now know who you are, your address, your email address and your phone number.

As a buyer I would prefer paypal and agree with foxette, no way would I use bank transfer on a pick up item worth $$$

Well we where just trying to Suss them out. We are 99% sure it was a scam . And where saying bank deposit to see what she would come back with.

I understand that, it is just that sometimes buyers will be suspicious of sellers that will not accept paypal, it kind of works both ways. Good luck!

We have had these kind of buyers before saying they are out of the country and can they pay via Western Union but this is the first via PayPal so we had a think about it and thought we would hear nothing back when we said that we would not let any one take. The caravan until the money was paid but she was fine with that and asked for my PayPal details so we then thought what it she says she paid but didn't the caravan and her money was refunded . That was when I decided to come on here and ask.

You most likely did the right thing, I always go with my gut instinct.
