Oh yeah! I remember the days!

I used to have a 'slightly'worked Holden HQ panel van, running a 427 chev, mated to a dodge 'torqueflight' gearbox, and a jaguar rear end - just to hold it on the road. I got sick of shearing holden stub axles every time I floored it!

Ah...those were the days! The days when spare change would fill the tank each week - not most of my paycheque!

Is that a Ford XE in the background...due for a transplant?

Thats what is commonly known as a fox body Mustang. between the years 1979, and 1993.. I took the picture from Craigslist. The Mustang stopped using 4 cyls in their cars in the 1994 model year, and the smallest engine you could get was a 3.8 v6.

The fox body 1979 - 1993 Mustangs were mostly hatch backs, The trunk, or coupe models (body style) is harder to find and more sought after.

I'd love to have that with a 4 cyl engine and 5 speed manual transmission. If 1989 or newer the 4cyl engines have dual spark plugs per cyl.

This is true of the Ford Rangers as well, The Rangers however carried their 4cyl engines well past 1993. .

Did that come with a 302 v8, or 5.0 with a manual transmission. It would be cool I think to have one of those here in Ohio with the steering on the right side. Here, the only right hand drives you see are Mail vehicles, or mail jeeps.

Options available for the XE Ford Falcon...

The XE-series was introduced with a choice of five engines

3.3-litre inline six-cylinder
4.1-litre inline six-cylinder
4.1-litre inline electronic fuel injected six-cylinder
4.9-litre V8
5.8-litre V8

Although I've never come across the first, the 3rd and 4th were the most popular, with the 351cubic inch, 5.8 litre beast also pretty rare.

That fox-body mustang would be a real head-turner out here! Everyone would pick it as a highly chopped and modded falcon.

Ok, i'm guessing the 4.9 v8 was, is the 302, very popular and comon on the factory Mustangs. In the Fox bodys, betweem 1979 and 1993, you could also get them with a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engine, also with choice of auto or manual, 4 speed at first then in later years a 5 speed.

The 351, or 5.8, was not a factory option in the American Mustangs, however, many people, including my cousin built them for drag racing and put the 351 Winsors in them. My cousin's went 11.5 seconds in the quarter mile but he went through a few transmissions with all the engine's power. Those 351s are 2 inchers wider and a hard in a Mustang, you had to do some header modding.

Also, there were no 4 doors on a mustang, in any year. 1964 - today.. You had the hatchback, and the trunk, or coupes. In a 1964 - 1966 the hatchbacks, or as they are known "fasbacks" are gold, worth a fortune, you might buy a house for less. The 1966 Mustang has the round gauges, so that would be my choice.

The 1974 -1978 Mustangs are worth alittle more in a hatchback, but don't come close to compare with the 64 - 66 diffrence..

The fox Stangs, on the other hand are worth more in the trunk models than hatch. Just so many more hatchbacks seen nowdays on the road.

I'm thinking alot about that RHD now. and what it would take to convert an American Mustang, into a right hand drive that can be driven from what those around here would expect to be the passenger seat. Now that would turn heads.

I had pretty much broken in the 331 in my Monza, and was cruising with the guy who did the machine work on the motor, when we encountered a 75 or 76 Mustang II Cobra, with a 351 in it..........we went up on the freeway, and I gave him such a drubbing he got out of his car thinking it had stopped..............

Guessing a bored 327, but ???, 331 threw me off for a moment. Those Monzas were awesome, don't see too many though.

.030 over 327.........Grumpy Jenkins built awesome horsepower from a 331..........

My Monza came with a 262 V8, and it ran 16's at Redding..........had a couple of weak points though.........it used a Saginaw 4-speed, with a cable clutch. I broke a number of clutch cables over the years. Had a puny rear end (2.56:1) too, and with the weird rear suspension, it was almost impossible to install a better rear end (cheaply) I bought a positrac rear end with the optional 2.92:1 gear set, and had a machine shop drill the axles and drums for a 5-lug Chevy pattern. Then I could use 14" Centerlines on the rear.

i used to go into Jeggs, and look at the rear frame kit they had in their showroom. it was to convert a leaf spring rear to eather a laddar bar, or 4 link with 6 way adjustable coilovers. they had a narrowed rear end housing bolted to it but it didn't go with it, just for show, it was made to show how easally you could swap rear ends i think.

i wanted that in a old nova or camaro, or possibly a dart, or valiant.. only with the nova or camaro, it would have the front frame as well. But i liked how you could raise or lower the front in the dart or valiant by cranking the tortion bars, with the adjustable coilovers, i could go low one day, and high the next.

I shoulda bought that kit, i don't know if they still sell it.

The machinist I mentioned earlier was in the process of building two chassis, one for him and one for me........both were going to go under early Vega bodies, his a coupe, and mine a panel wagon. I already had the 9-inch nodular iron center section for the rear end, and the glass "74 Vegan front clip. My plan was to have the slowest car in the fastest bracket..........big ol' rat motor hooked to a full-manual Turbo 400...........but then true love got in the way........

Earlier, a friend and I had obtained a '62 Chevy II, with plans to insert a rat motor inside the car, and drive it from the back seat. We had gotten to the point where we had a seized 396 to use as a guide, and were preparing to cut the floor pan.......Now that would have been an interesting ride.

Both front and rear clips are still available for popular models............the problem with installing them into street cars is that in most states, a reinspection of the vehicle is required.
