On the advice of my children (because I know nothing) we signed up for the netflix free trial

It was the simplest registration ever and took no time to set up, the other thing is you can pay with paypal so if we decide to stick with it after the trial we wont have to worry about paying the bill.

So I cant seem to figure out whether netflix has anything but movies and tv shows...sport for example. And I cant get through to anyone that can help or undertsand my query at Foxtel......might just stick with the devil I know for now!

We have the platinum with 2 outlets so I logged on to telstra as we get our foxtel through them to see exactly what we are paying and it had our address as foxtel service in WA lol so I have put through an enquiry.. I think we pay roughly about $140 per month.

I am going to go into the Telstra store and sort it out and get rid of movies for a start.

If you have plenty of data usage available it is worth doing the free trial for a look, there isn't sport it is movies and tv shows. Basically you could get the 3 main ones for less than half the price of foxtel with NO ADS!

We went for the 4 screen option so basically we can run it on the main tv, two ipads and my computer.(all at the same time) We have put our individual names so it can guess at the types of movies etc us as individuals like.

We pay $130. I don't use it at all and the 15yo has probably moved on.

My husband however doesn't watch free to air at all, so maybe we could lose one box and check out netflix.

Love the no ads bit...that was the reason for foxtel way back when.

I'm paying about $120 a month so if I change to Foxtel Play which has sport I'll save about $50 a month. I think I'll save that much anyway, just wanted to speak to someone at Foxtel to confirm but i think they are paid to be pleasant but unhelpful!

I phoned Telstra when we were setting it up and I think we can have our bill cut in half too

Yes that was our reason too, and I am fairly sure it cost us $26 per month, it was great when the kids were little. I spend most of the day listening to news, my husband loves the sport and history. Kids generally like movies anyway

You need a good net connection for netflix. Have a look at the site and your provider. Some include netflix in their quota so you won't need to worry about your data limits. With other providers you'll need a large quota plan to enjoy streamed TV.

With a good net service and unmetred netflix content, you could save heaps.

If they offer the programs you like. I'm not sure about sport on netflix. I doubt they have much Aussie sport but that is only a guess and could be wrong.

For what it's worth, here in the US I have Dish (satellite TV) at $79.99 per month, which I will be dropping at the end of my contract. I'm going to buy a Mohu antenna and watch over-the-air TV. I also have Netflix, at $8.99 a month for two devices, and I'm going to drop that once I'm set up with the Mohu. Then I plan on subscribing to Amazon prime, at $100 a year, which will also allow me free shipping with Amazon purchases.

So, I will be saving over a $1000 a year, less the cost of the Mohu, and the cost of Amazon prime........

Foxtel won't give you info about netflix. They're incompetition. You need a good quality internet service (and provider) for netflix.

Sorry, I misunderstood when I answered that last comment. Duh, I thought you meant you'd phoned Foxtel about Netflix when it's clear to me now the call was about Foxtel Play. 😄

I think you need an ethernet port on your TV or you could use a set top box with ethernet. Or wifi TV

Hmmm, I wonder if the gadget my current foxtel uses would work? It has 2 pieces that plug into power points, one near the modem and one near the tv, the ethernet cables run from the modem to the box and from the tv to the other box.
