Personal Freedom

What does it mean?, to you. What do you believe it means to others? Should we be telling people what they can and can't have in their homes, carry with them in public?

If someone had something that they might possiblly be able to use to harm someone else, even if they had not done so, should we apply pre crime rules and take that item away? If it was a similar item to what others have used to harm others, should we punnish all who might want to have or carry said item?

Yes we should restrict personal freedoms. Some people need that restriction.
I am happy to have them restricted for the safety of everyone.

The thing is,we feel safe in Aus as there is gun control

People in the US must not feel safe if they want/demand to carry a gun for protection,(no offence meant)

My personal definition of personal freedom is that I should be allowed to live my life without the fear that that some deranged person who has serious mental problems, is able to buy firearms and carry out a vendetta against innocent people.

Absolutely; anything that is detrimental to the rest of the society needs to weighed carefully that so call "right" of one person does not impinge on rights of others.

I do not want any idiot to be able to own a gun, live tiger, crocodile or dangerous snake, or other dangerous animal without some sort of permit/license. I do not want just anybody to be allowed to poses dangerous materials like explosives or poisons, or radioactive materials. I do not want people to smoke in public places, because smoke affects my breathing. I do not want people to have the right to get the most powerful stereo and blast their head banging music over the whole suburb day and night.

A few years ago, on my first Domestic Flight, I was surprised when my handbag went through the scanner and I was stopped from taking it.

"You have a pair of scissors in your bag, please remove it."

Yes, I had a small manicure set in my bag and never thought it to be a dangerous weapon. Ahhh, and the nail file was also mentioned. I was told I could sign a paper and collect the set on my return. I took the set out and gave it to my Granddaughter ho drove me to the Airport.

At first I thought it was funny, but in hindsight, sitting on the plane I thought how easy it would be if someone went berserk for some reason and stabbed passengers in the head, neck and face. A small item can be used as a weapon.

Now I make sure every dangerous article is in my suitcase and nothing threatening in my carry on luggage or handbag.

Personal freedom? I am glad that someone is caring about our safety.

Why not take everything then, theres not a single thing in existance that can't be used as a weapon. But what about my hands? arent they a dangerious weapon, someone quick cut them off. But then I might be able to stab with my arms, better remove them too, and the legs, just to prevent me from kicking anyone. lol

People need to turn in their arms and legs for Australians to be safe.

Joanie. in 2011 the death by shooting rate in Australia was 0.86 per 100,00 population.

In USA in 2011 it was 10.3 per 1000,000 population.

keep the fire burning and eternety of light

you can take all you want away from the rightfull owners of said items, it won't stop people from dying.
