We need to use words wisely.

The use of words is a priviledge and should be used with the utmost care.

The constant misuse, exaggerations to get mute points across, self interest with agendas and intentional hype are wearing down the mediators whom need to spend time on genuine misunderstandings. As well as certain words losing credibility.

It is not kindergarten anymore and anyone using words must realize they have an effect, causing consequences.

So kindly think before you speak or write, as unnecessary arguments commence due to incorrect grammar or points being made outside of the original contexts.

It is not difficult, if you are not sure of something, DON'T. Inaction won't get you in trouble, but incorrect action will.

Let's make tomorrow a better day by individual action to think before we act, speak or write and improve ourselves.

Lets all give the mediators (moderators) a break from trying to decipher the true meaning of each post.

A happy, unconfused moderator is a fair moderator 🙂

I agree kope, and I would hope that includes knowing the difference between "moot" and "mute", and using "who" and "whom" correctly..........

And, as I have said a million times on these boards, hyperbole is a no-no...........

In the process let's not stifle the cut and thrust of 'debate'. Sure, some words need to be avoided because they are suffering from fatigue (racist, bigot, xenophobe, hand-wringer, bleedin' heart etc) and it would be a change to see those words used correctly but their overuse reveals the poverty of the argument put up by some people.

And I don't want to see the unemployed ranks added to by mods facing the bullet

Good thread! And so true.

Daily, I see posters using terminology and wording, designed specifically to promote their own agendas, or deliberately inflame others - (I admit to being a little guilty of it too, but only in response, and to call them out on their behaviour!).

There seems to be a growing number of posters who purposely antagonise others by 'flaming' - a well-known forum tactic.

As for making life easier for "the mods" are you serious??? the mods have strangled debate, arbitrarily edit posts and react to all the nonsense spiteful reporting that is rife on here. One never knows when one will be summarily put on a 30 day ban or removed for life at the whim of a spiteful group who their only gripe is they disagree with you.

If you want to have a better experience on here then suggest to the mods to "out" the serial button pushers.

I find the whole of your post rather confusing. Are you saying we should moderate ourselves, curtail our freedom of expression? for fear of offending? utmost care? what does that mean exactly? have I missed a thread that dealt with this before?

I will never bow down to restricting my freedom of expression, freedom of expression of others, never report a person for their opinion even if I don't agree with it.

This is a free country and we are free to express ourselves in a manner that is not designed to ignite offence for the sake of it.

Are we to be afraid of posting if we are "not sure" of something? isn't that what these boards are for? to get other opinions/ to learn?

Lady - No, you didn't miss anything and well picked up on it appearing as though it shot out of the blue.

To clarify, I have recently come across many confrontations and potential confrontations between others, mostly off ebay out in the real world.

These more than often stem from simply using the wrong words that change meanings or a person feels as though their point needs to be embellished. So often I am sitting on the fence hearing arguments commence to due one party misunderstanding or incorrect use of terms/grammar when in fact there is no cause for an argument. Naturally I assist where the situation permits.

My post is more to remind us all to think before we speak, slow down a little and choose words wisely so as to prevent unnecessary potential negative dialogue.

I think that you've read what you want into the OP's post, rather than what it was meant to be about.

There are serial posters here who for reasons unknown, (but maybe to them), post inflammatory words and phrases, and use grammar, designed deliberately to antagonise others - freedom of expression was never in question.

These posters appear to revel in creating conflict on the forum - by taking things out of context, misreading them, (intentionally or not), and purposely create an air of disharmony.

I can think of a number of threads in the very recent past, where this has happened on a regular basis.

Whilst I don't always agree with some of the heavy-handed decisions meted out by the mods, I don't envy them their jobs - as regardless of their decision, someone will always object to said decision.

Me? I quite enjoyed my holidays in e-bali! It's too cold here atm!

Maybe the above is a motto we should all strive to adhere to?

That is not what your post said. It mentioned nothing about "conversations in real life". That is why I was confused.

Also, many here construct their opinions and arguments very well and if others want to take offense then it is they who have the cognitive handicap, not necessarily the initiator of the conversation.

Then you have the ones who delight in putting a different spin on a members post to antagonise and disrupt, not saying that your thread is like that and no offence intended either.

Well that's good then Curmu if you can see it. Perhaps when you want to call someone out on their behaviour, you might want to do so in a more pleasant way. Perhaps think about how you would feel. Isn't that what this thread is all about?
