so, who's watching this show tonight at 8:30 on SBS?

if it's not cancelled that is. The people involved have tried to get it wiped because it represents them in an unfavourable light.

Definitely watching, looks the same as current affairs and news shows to me, they are always misrepresenting people 🙂

It's about Bidwill and surrounds. Having lived there for a while, I think they would be hard pushed to make them look any worse than they are. But, I guess we'll see.

one of the participants - the mother - kept saying

things like - just when we were about to get back

on track, just when i was about to get my daughter

to get a job, just when we were about to do this or that -

now this documentary has ruined our chances etc.

Not wanting to prejudge the residents but after watching the promos for the show it seems to be a 'real life' version of Housos with the residents of Sunnyvale replaced by the residents in Struggle Street.

The truck blockade this morning? The drivers objection about how the residents were portrayed?

People being judged for being poor, and spending their money on junk food (filmed eating junk food that SBS bought them)?

Some of the residents may be portraying themselves as themselves 🙂 will be interesting to see which ones they treasure?

Obviously they could do the same show in other areas and portray it in a bad light. It is natural to be defensive I suppose.

I'll be watching it. How could I not, it's had so much publicity. I've already got the telly tuned to SBS.

Good on the Garbos, they felt they had their honour to defend, but really, from what I've heard and seen living in Blacktown for 10-odd years, there's no "stereotyping". That's what it's like.

And it's sad, sad, sad.

It's what unemployment, welfare, drugs and alcohol does to ppl.

It was sad, I agree. The one thing that really stood out to me was people crying poor that were grossly overweight with a cigarette in their hand. The guy that goes out to collect scrap metal for cash then goes and buys take away food. I would never waste money like that when I could make it at home.
