http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/sydney-mining-ceo-glen-paul-darby-guilty-of-rape-but-granted-bail-20150516-gh31na.html

Perhaps the whole story hasn't been revealed. But from the article these appear to be the facts:

CEO gets together with a woman who used to work with him.

They go out to a bar and get totally drunk.

Both go back to his office.

She plonks herself on his desk.

He pulls down her stockings and gets to it.

No force is used or threats are made.

She goes home and says to he boyfriend "I think I have been raped".

It sounds as if the jury had a hard time deciding (judge called their verdicts irrational and inconsistent) and he also noted the CEO had issues with alcohol (prior drink driving).

I can't help but ponder convictions like this where men are convicted. Unless he deliberately set out to get her drunk so that he could rape her, wouldn't this be a case of 2 people too intoxicated to know what they were doing? Wouldn't the responsibility lie with her as much as it does with him?

And then compare the CEOs sentence of 2 years (albeit out on parole) with this rapists sentence of 3 years:

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/convicted-rapist-luke-lazarus-jailed-for-at-least-three-years-20150327-1m91up.html

This scumbag rapist only gets 3 years for deliberately raping this teenage girl and then bragging cause she was a virgin.

I find it hard to fathom how the first man could possibly be convicted of rape. Going by what is in that article only it was mutual sex with consent or even invitation.

It sounds as though he has bail because the judge knows that with a new jury the conviction will be overturned.

As for the second person, my goodness. He has some friends in high places.

Re the first case

-I agree that the whole story hasnt been revealed..Maybe I missed it but no mention of evidence on the woman?..

Do you think they still work in the same building?

The worst one I have heard of in terms of jail time, was a 16 yr old boy being given four yrs jail for raping his 12 yr old sister. She became pregnant, gave up the baby for adoption, and suffered from that decision, too. Four whole years for destroying his sister's happiness.

youcandoit, I think the woman no longer worked with him.
