Fish at Japan's Shima Marineland escapes predators and survives for seven years

A Goldfish thrown into an aquarium tank as a snack for bigger fish is discovered SEVEN YEARS later after successfully managing to hide from predators... and has now been given its own display

The plucky fish not only survived in the filtration tank, but thrived as it fed off food scraps

The incredible tale of survival began seven years ago when the carnivorous arapaima displayed at the aquarium were fed live fish, Yahoo Japan reported.

These fearsome creatures, native to South America and the Amazon, can grow up to 13ft in length and eat smaller fish.

Remarkably, the baby goldfish was thrown into the tank as live bait but managed to evade the predators by swimming down a 1cm-wide gap.

Following the pipework, it ended up in the filtration unit where it lived in total seclusion and darkness for seven years, feeding off food scraps which made their way into the tank.

When found, its only deficiency was its colour. Because there was no sunlight in the filtration tank, it turned a shade of light yellow rather than dark gold.

The plucky fish has now been given its own display and is a star attraction used to educate visitors about goldfish.

Hi Sock--protector of marine creatures ..big and small.

Most fish have those survival genes.

Few trips to Port Albert near here have been friutless.

Last time--if i had have got the one nibbling the bait and 2 more -i would have caught 3.....Richo.

Hi Deb---back in the 1970s -would take the 2 young daughters

to the dual boats ramps at Frankston on a Sunday morning.

Great entertainment--from the incompetence of the newbies

and the punch ups from blokes who would be great fellows during the

week-but turn feral at the boat ramp.

Believe it hasnt changed much since those days................................Richo////.
