I've had a SodaStream for many years. At the moment I still use an older style machine with the bayonet seal type bottles.

However, SodaStream in it's infinite wisdom has withdrawn the 40lt cylinders my machine takes, and the new 60lt ones don't fit. So in effect once my last 40lt cylinder runs out that is it....my old machine will be usless.

At one stage I had two machines and one was exchanged (traded in) for a new machine....one that takes the 60lt cylinders. I haven't used it yet as my old bottles don't fit it and the new bottles don't come in 250ml size which I like. Alas one day I will have to bite the bullet and pack away a perfectly good, and frankly when it comes to bottle sizes, more versatile machine and use the new one.

However, having looked at some of the feedback on current SodaStream machines, I was shocked to find that it is not unknown for some of these modern machines to EXPLODE while being used! I'm not talking about the crazy antics on YouTube but ordinary use under everyday household conditions. I am now wary about eventually using the new machine.

Has anyone had this happen? What was the cause? It appears that this is not just an issue with SodaStream in Australia but around the world. Older machines had a protective door and the machine wouldn't carbonate if it was open. The new models have no such safety protection. Maybe SodaStream should re-think the design of current machines and bring this feature back.

SodaStream...safe to use or not?
