Reading Club - fiction & non-fiction

What y'all reading?

Seems like there's a lot of bookworms around here. I'm currently a quarter of the way through Teach Yourself Fitness, great non-fiction book mainly about the mindset and motivation behind effective exercise. If that's not your cup of tea, tell me what is below!

I'm currently reading the whole set of Kahlil Gibran's books again. One I've always referred to and kept close is "The Prophet". In my opinion, it's a helpful and excellent insight.

Reading Virginia Woolf's Orlando. Just got to the second of four personalities. Might have to re-read the book immediately after completion. I'm sure I am missing some "secondary" comprehension.

Of note: It was the novel studied by one of my sisters for her HSC. I wonder if she has re-read it since. Must ask her.

Edit: It is delightfully descriptive.

I've read all the other Alphabet mysteries so now I'm reading "X" by Sue Grafton. Easy reads and likable characters. She's nearly finished the alphabet so we are wondering what she will come up with next.

Yes Tas he had great wisdom which is still so applicable today. People like him are so gifted. and I love The Prophet.

By reading threads such as this and seeing what others are reading.

I am currently reading Dianna Gabaldon's books......most for the second time.

Just finished a re-read of all of them too Lyndal.....just got Scottish Prisoner to go. Wonderful books. Have you seen the TV series of Outlander yet?

At the moment I'm re-reading another old favourite - Here Be Dragonnes by Mary Brown. It's a trilogy of three of her stories - a beautifully written old fashioned fairy story.

Lined up next on my kindle is the fourth and final of the Convict Girls saga by Deborah Challinor - highly recommend the series to anyone interested in early Sydney history (with a bit of sleeze!)

I have always "thought" with a Scottish accent as my great grandfather on my mother's side was born in Scotland as was my great great grandfather on my father's side. I love all things Scottish.

Book stores, libraries, OP shops, department stores have a huge range these days.

I also have a friend in Ireland who is an avid reader and sends book to my kindle.

I am currently reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Another good source is Goodreads.com

Between myself, my daughter and my grandsons we have over 3000 real books and I have almost 1000 on my kindle.

I have been reading since as long as I remember, my grandson is 6 and has read the first two Harry Potter books and is about to start the third.

I read a saying once....The greatest gift you can give a child is a love of reading....so very true.

Yes, I was very disappointed with Go, Set a Watchman by Harper Lee. Her first and until recently only book To Kill a Mockingbird is an absolute classic which if you haven't read it I highly recommend.

I haven't read To Kill a Mockingbird as it wasn't part of my English Literature studies, but as it's such a famous book I would like to read it one day.

I heard that the author was writing a new book - is it a sequel to Mockingbird, or a standalone novel?

It is a stand alone novel...was actually writtten before she wrote To Kill a Mockingbird but wasn't published until this year.

It is set 20 years after the events in To Kill A Mockingbird.

Personally I think it would have been better to have left well enough alone and not published it at all.

I'm considering taking home Divergent to read from the library... it looks at me every time I go in 😛

But I love the film and I have a feeling the book isn't going to be as good, or as dramatic.
