A question about using Harissa

I have bought a tube of Harissa to use to spice up the meat mixture in a dish I am making. I've never used it before. How much of the paste should I put in? A teaspoon, a tablespoon, the whole tube?? I want a reasonable amount of spicyness but not so much to blow people's heads off.

The recipe has 125g mince, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 2 slices prosciutto 80ml wine mushroom and other bits and pieces in it.

Very sparingly Lurker, it can be exquisitely hot enough to blow your teeth out.

It's great stuff though, fantastic flavour.

Sounds good- I would put a tabspn in with that amount of meat..

maybe mix it with the tomato paste and check it out?

That recipe sounds delish. Ive never used harissa, I’ll give it a go now.

I'm actually using it as the stuffing for arancini balls. I hope it all works out OK otherwise we'll be short on dishes tomorrow for Melb Cup.

They turned out well, but geez they are fiddly little buggas to prepare LOL. Cook the rice, cook the meat sauce, roll the balls, stuff 'em, roll them in flour, egg and breadcrumbs, fry them. Took forever to do!

I put in a couple of teaspoons of the harissa because that tasted hot enough mixed in with the tomato paste but I could have used more. They weren't really very spicy at all. Everybody said they liked them though and they all got eaten, so they can't have been too bad 🙂
