Taking a break

I'll be taking a break from here for a while so that I can focus on issues that I am passionate about without the unnecessary upsets. Play nice. Stay safe. And, if anyone is interested, there will be a nationwide march for refugees on Palm Sunday, March 20th.

Why not do a fund raiser for the Royal Flying Doctor Service? Why not offer to do the shopping for a blind person? Sure, not as many headlines doing mundane things like that but it all counts.

Heaven only knows, Helen. I was always told (by the nuns at school LOL) that it was a prayer of St Francis. Dr Google offers a few different author,s but several sources say it was around in oral tradition long before it was ever written down, so it could have been the work of anyone. I guess St Francis is as good a candidate as any - I've always had a soft spot for him - and the words are worth remembering whoever first spoke them.

The situation is substantially worse among Australian children, with 17.7 per cent of kids across the country living below the OECD poverty line, and more than one in three children living in sole parent households are in poverty.

In Australia, the poverty line equates to living on less than $400 a week for a single adult or $841 for a couple with two children

Just under half of all recipients of the Disability Support Pension are also living in poverty, as are a quarter of the Australians receiving the carers payment and 15 per cent of those receiving the age pension.

Ms Goldie said the report shines a light on the “sheer inadequacy” of the welfare system.

She also said it emphasised the danger posed by the Abbott government’s first budget, which would reduce the indexation of pension payments to the Consumer Price Index only.

why are wages not growing as is the cost of everything else around us ( for those lucky enough to have a job)

employment is way too high, so many people are doing it tough atm, and the govt wants to cut welfare and pensions and perhaps increase GST- how is that going to help ?

And yet when a person needs genuine help the solicitors and barristers run away unless paid. Hypocrites the lot of them.They fall over themselves for ILLEGAL refugees and wont help one iota for an Australian who needs help even if the case is rock solid or is a criminal case that is obviously bunkum.

These immigrants are playing the system.The LAW says they must take asylum in the first safe country.Indonesia was safe.Pakistan was safe.But they chgose Australia for the welfare system.Your son is helping lawbreakers because you can spin it anyway you like but these so called refugees are lawbreakers and economic refugees.

Send them back kids included and send them a message.Dont bother coming.
