70's Glamour Girl Lynda Stoner Running For Senate!

IT’s a long way from her role as a curvaceous blonde on shows like Cop Shop, Young Doctors and Prisoner but actor Lynda Stoner is hoping to gain a seat in the Senate.

The Mosman resident, whose acting break came as one of Paul Hogan’s sexy sidekicks, has sacrificed her acting career for decades in favour of being an animal rights campaigner.

She is standing for the Senate as a candidate for the Animal Justice Party hoping to “ give animals a voice’’

“More than 80 per cent of decisions made by politicians have a bearing on animals.’’ she said.

Stoner’s interest in animal welfare began in the early 1970s when she was acting inCop Shop and saw a film clip of young harp seals being clubbed and skinned, sometimes while still alive.

“I couldn’t stop thinking about it,’’ she said.

Stoner said she looked around in vain among the acting fraternity for support on animal welfare issues and her refusal to eat meat.

“Actor Gerard Kennedy was the only one who had taken a stand and didn’t eat meat — no-one else understood,’’ she said.

Stoner once admitted that her days at the Animal Liberation could often be harrowing — looking at photograph after photograph of animal cruelty.

She has previously stood unsuccessfully for a seat in the NSW Parliament but her current Senate bid has been inspired by a number of factors, including the success of Animal Justice Party senator Mark Pearson.

“I am also excited by the fact that more and more Australians recognise that animals need a voice,’’ she said.

“First you are ignored, then people get annoyed and then they change.”

She was pretty much a voice in the wilderness back in the days.

I was (and still am) a great admirer of her compassion and her fortitude.

She was one tough lady who stood toe to toe with people who didn't care about animal rights.

I seem to remember that Derryn (?) Hinch ridiculed her at the time and she didn't flinch.

She will absolutely get my vote,god knows both parties give no real thought to animal welfare over profit. They make some token gesture for a small time then allow more crulty to occur.

She is inspirational

He is now a firm supporter of animal rights.

As Lynda said people ignore, get angry, and then change their opinion.

God help us if we don't change our opinions over time as we accumulate more knowledge.....on anything.

As long as she stays away from those PETA terrorists, then she's got my support. Sadly, I think little will change when it comes to animals because so many people see them as being below us, so don't care. Unless it's a dog, then they care. No-one cares about cows, sheep, pigs, goats, chooks, because they are "farm animals" and are too stupid to know what's going on. They are there to eat and nothing else. They are treated as being the lowest life forms on the planet.

When was the last time you took the time to get to know a "farm animal"? When was the last time you asked yourself how intelligent they are? Chooks aren't the brightest, but they're still not as dumb as people think. The other animals I mentioned are actually highly intelligent. Cows, sheep, goats and pigs are actually more intelligent than dogs, dolphins and monkeys. Yes, they are more intelligent than dogs, believe it or not!

They have feelings, they have emotions, they grieve when one of their own disappears. They can get quite depressed when that happens. Some will die from the depression. They can recognise faces for years after they saw it last. They get very stressed when removed from their familiar environment. They know what's about to happen when they are pushed up "the ramp" for the last time. This has all been proven scientifically.

When you look at their brains, they are almost identical to ours. When you look at the brains of animals of less intelligence, the brains are a lot smoother, similar to someone with Altzheimer's.

I should point out that I'm not a vegetarian, although I could be because I don't really like meat that much. I do buy leather shoes and I do wear wool clothing. I do believe that animals of all kinds deserve more respect. Reports of cruelty should be taken more seriously by organisations like the RSPCA. They ignore most reports, unless it involves a dog.

As for PETA, they are worse than terrorists and should be stopped. Any animal they "rescue", they kill. All those midnight raids they do on battery farms, they kill all the chooks. Any other animals the "rescue", even dogs, are killed. They believe nothing should be in captivity, so even having pets is wrong in their eyes. They spout so much carp. Shearing sheep, goats and alpacas is NOT cruel. It's cruel NOT to shear them. Not shearing them can kill them. They nearly destroyed out wool industry with their carp.

I could keep going, but I'm starting to rant, so I'll hop off the soapbox now and give someone else a go!

one is for pig farming and one for coles roast chickens

WHAT THE...?

they are suposed to be the royal scociety for the protection of animals!

seems they have sold out on the PROTECTION bit.

oh, yes we look after them up til they get slaughtered, good going RSPCA

isnt that akin to taking care of concentration camp prisoners up till they got gassed?
