Bowel Cancer Screening Kits

Anyone participating in that program?

I got an invitation in the mail yesterday inviting me to participate and a kit would be sent out to me in 4-6 weeks.

Contact them if you want to opt out.

I opted out per instructions on their website.

I just didn't want to go through the motions.

Oh, that is just baaad.

I found it very inconvenient, but my mum had bowel problems.

You have to do tests 2 days apart before you send it.

First test has to be kept in the fridge.

Get ya brain around that one!

Yeah I know. Gross.

That's why I opted out. I'd rather take my chances.

There's no history of bowel cancer in the family and I have no problems in that department so I think I'm pretty safe.

That is a very bad attitude to have. Bowel cancer is very treatable and curable if caught early. By the time you get symptoms, it's often too late. I have seen many people die that had no family history and thought they were safe. Bowel cancer is on the (rapid) increase and is not to be taken lightly. If you refuse to participate in a program that could potentially save your life, at the very least go and have a colonoscopy. Bowel cancer is a very unpleasant way to die. VERY unpleasant.

It is only available for people until 74 years old.

Peole over 74 don't count anymore.

Couldn't agree more. It's free, so there's a tiny bit of dodoo to deal with but if it saves your life why on earth not?

I was sent one and would have done it only I'd had a colonoscopy only abt 3 months ago.

"It won't happen to me " are famous last words for many many ppl.

The things that will happen to you if you do get bowel cancer are a lot more gross than a very simple test.

Icy, have a colonoscopy the stuff you take before hand isnt horrible these days, and the actual procedure you dont feel as they give you anisthetic, all over in a hour and you can go home.........better to be safe, than sorry.

LOL a colonoscopy is no picnic. The stuff I was given was pure poison. yes you're out for the procedure but it's what goes before for 2 days that for me was plain torture.

There's no history of breast cancer in my family on either side.....guess I drew the short straw because I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago.

I was like you icy when I recieved one of the kits in the mail for my 50,th birthday. ( Present from the government ) I threw it in the bin, cos I wasnt doing poo poos in an icy cube tray. A few months later I went to the doctor for an anual check up and he gave me a good telling off and handed me a new tray. It wasnt that big a drama and all came back clear. Having done one, I would probably do another test in a couple of years time.

Just make sure you add the clear ice cubes to your refreshments or it could add a whole new meaning to drinky poos.
