Isn't it strange! Only a few yrs or so ago most people didn't give a damn about politics. Nobody could be bothered to inform themselves about the EU. They relied entirely on the tabloids to give them foot high headlines on some dastardly deed or other the EU had 'supposedly' done. Usually sourced from that notorious liar Boris .Now everyone is an expert ? The government 'fixed' the working class by getting rid of the unions..along with manufacturing .in the 80's Leaving whole swathes of the country reliant on the dole..(a system Maggie encouraged ) Those who were proud hard working people left without jobs were forced to leave their homes and 'MIGRATE' to wherever work could be found... The 'bludgers' remained and happily took the handouts feeling they were 'owed' The middle class simple grew richer for the most part and their contribution to British society was to start buying up second homes left right and centre.(sometimes even third ones) not forgetting ones abroad, especially in Spain. That it would deprive the locals of affordable homes, and then eventually even their own kids ,mattered not in those greed filled yrs. They also felt 'entitled' and rewarded themselves with multiple 'breaks' at home and abroad Enjoying yourself was the buzz words of the time The upper classes.or top 2%.remained the same.in control, getting richer in fact on cash made through the totally out of control money markets, especially the city of London that had cleverly avoided the irksome part of joining the EU club by retaining the pound. Trouble was although the country no longer had to deal with those blasted unions along with the great unwashed, living 'oh I don't know' somewhere above Watford? The country stopped making anything. The people however didn't stop buying. On credit of course It became apparent recently that the UK has accumulated a debt larger than anything in it's history. unpayable in fact.. Talk about Greece lol what to do? well blame the EU of course. Get the money we pay in to allow us to trade freely. back! (Stick a fictitious figure on the side of a bus and get those poor people mad) The total 'no brainers' in power realised without the cash cows that had once been Liverpool (almost 250 yrs.. with 100 yrs of that providing 93% of GDP for the UK) or Manchester (cotton/textile king for over 100yrs) or Birmingham (car manufacturing) etc etc.Nothing much seemed to be coming in apart from that which was derived from the city..now almost wholly owned by America. It was just so easy to cry 'wolf' .Yrs and yrs of blaming the EU, to divert attention from the real crisis at home. The huge growing divide between the rich and the poor in the UK.The lack of jobs .The sneering that was commonplace at anyone living above Watford.. London and the home counties had indeed become another country. They voted that way as well. Immigration was always up to the uk Government to allow or not..Nothing whatsoever to do with the EU. True the policies of the free trade is to allow free movement of people. However . how a country implements that is ENTIRELY UP TO THEM. The Netherlands for instance does not allow you to remain n the country without a job for longer than 6 months. You are monitored upon arrival.. your papers checked. throughout your stay etc.You are NOT eligible for any assistance i.e. dole until you have worked in full time employment for at least 6 months. You will NOT get a job that can be done by a Dutch person.(a la USA) and you will not be deemed a resident for 5 yrs Hence there is no flood of immigrants to NL. SO It's the UK's policies or lack of in regard of EU migrants.. OR there are in fact jobs for them? I suspect the latter Immigrants from outside the EU.. well.. Thats that old chestnut the handing out of British passports to people from the old Empire.. AGAIN nothing to do with the EU. Refugees... Thats ENTIRELY due to the UK's friend and special relationship buddy the USA. AGAIN.. Nothing to do with the EU. Given the above .I can't believe my fellow countrymen are so thick they haven't been able to work this out by now.. Apparently many are...They needed to have got off their butts yrs ago and sorted out their own country first before blaming the rest of the world and especially the EU now for their self inflicted ills . Shame on them.

Warnings about global economic fallout if Britain votes to leave the European Union are reaching fever pitch a day out from the so-called Brexit referendum.

In an op-ed in the Guardian, billionaire currency trader George Soros said a "Leave" vote could severely damage British living standards and potentially trigger a major crash in the British pound.

Economists divided on Brexit

BlackRock managing director and global chief investment strategist Richard Turnill said if Britain does exit, he expected to see volatility and significant declines in the Sterling.

"We expect to see significant declines in domestic UK assets, particularly smaller, mid-cap equities, but actually as you've seen over the last few days, the volatility I think is going to extend to broader European assets and global assets. I think you'll see flows into safe havens in the event of an exit, back into treasuries, back into gold," Mr Turnill said.

But British economist Roger Bootle, the founder of Capital Economics disagreed, arguing the UK would not be necessarily worse off if it left the EU.

"It's not going to be a case of European politicians saying to their own industries and to us we can't trade, that would be illegal under WTO rules," Mr Bootle said.

"It's going to be a matter of the EU if worse comes to worse, treating us exactly as they treat all sorts of countries around the world, including the United States, India, China, Japan, etc."

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-22/warnings-about-global-economic-fall-out-of-brexit-reaches-fever/7532598

My son, who lives in England and works in the finance sector in London, wants England to stay in the EU. I say they should leave. We've been sending each other terse emails.

billionaire currency trader George Soros - says it all really.

I have always been for coming out of this morass of unelected and invisible bureaucratic old boys club. We are not allowed to know who these individuals are - and there are literally hundreds of them - and even if we knew, we wouldn't be able to get rid of them, unlike our MPs. They have complete control of our sovereignty, from our laws, to our border control. It's a stifling and restrictive organisation. From it's beginnings where it was originally set up as a common MARKET, it has now morphed into this super state. I could fill this page up with drawbacks and pitfalls from being in this nasty energy sapping organisation, but I won't bore you all.

Instead and if you have a few minutes to spare, have a read of the link below. More or less tells you all in a condensed fashion.

Icy, with all due respects to your son - who is perfectly entitled to his opinion - he's in finance, so, as Mandy Rice-Davies once famously said: "Well he would say that wouldn't he" ?

http://www.voteleavetakecontrol.org/yourchoice

Icy: I suggest you encourage your son to have a look at this video - one of the best summaries I have seen on why we MUST leave the wretched EU:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gu7-Dl93fM

If Brexit wins (and my hunch is it will), the political and economic repercussions will be felt around the world as far as Australia. It could start the break up of the unstable EU, which in turn could create more problems for continental Europe than the EU was supposedly designed to prevent in the first place. But we can't go on as we are. We have to Brexit:

Does your cucumber comply with EU Directive 1677/88/EEC?....

www.community.ebay.co.uk/round-table/in-or-out/4840350#M185225

Oh please, not another cucumber standards and heaps of similar nonsense, which has NEVER had anything to do with EU. Some veg/fruit standards existed long before EU, others are not true. These stories were made up by jurnos sitting in a pub during times when nothing much was happening and competing who can make the most improbable story that will be accepted as a truth just by being repeated often enough.

The Brits carry on as if they were the only ones that get people from other countries to come there. There are plenty of of Brits living in other EU countries. Some also claim the very generous social benefits and excellent medical care, which is available to them in many of the EU countries. It goes both ways.

Why do you think that USA is so powerful? Because they are united (sort of) and there is many of them. Splintered Europe is only going to be bunch of small countries again. And Britain has stopped being great when they lost their colonies, and unless they plan to start invading and exploiting other countries again, there is not much chance that alone they will be doing better than as a part of EU.

All that remains now is for CaMoron to be booted out of No10, and Nigel Farage to be measuring up in there for new curtains. Fingers crossed on that one. As for Corbyn, the latter day Hippy, well he may as well go into the woods and hug a few trees for any chance he has of moving his IKEA furniture in there.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/682942/Nigel-Farage-Brexit-EU-referendum-result

Apparently Larry the Cameron's Cat has already left No. 10

We're still waiting (with baited breath) for him to make his piece to camera on the steps of No 10, Icy. But I suppose his scriptwriters are still putting the finishing touches to his speech.

Pity the poor cat. *sigh*

In 2016 A.D. a small island nation representing less than 1% of the worlds population but one of the richest countries in the world decided that it couldn't sha...re even a tiny amount of that wealth with its close neighbours or people from other countries who didn't have as much as them.

They voted to leave the worlds larchest single market that they were pretty much in charge of, winning on well over 90% of votes.

A point of historical interest is that the referendum was won because elderly and working class people who were getting little support under the right wing austerity based government of the time were convinced that by leaving the worlds largest mechanism for sharing they would somehow end up with a fairer society where people would share with them more.

This led to an even more unfair society and the small island nation ended up being devided up even further, based on the same logic, until it ended up being 3 nations full of people who believed that the smaller they were the less they would have to share with others and therefore the more people would share with them.

In hindsight this logic was fundamentaly flawed from a social, economic and even moral point of view but at the time a man with funny hair said it was true.

Over the coming decade this tiny island of 3 nations became politicaly irelevant and the unrealistic level of self importance it had built up in the 17th and 18th century through colonisation and some early technology innovations were of little importance in the modern world.

Whilst historians agree that leaving the EU accelerated the demise, the underlying cause was a social phenomenon where no one wanted to share with each other.
