'Fake doctor' also worked for pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca

A man who allegedly faked his credentials to masquerade as a doctor in the New South Wales health system later worked for one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, AstraZeneca.

He worked as a doctor in NSW hospitals, including Wyong, Gosford, Hornsby and Manly, for more than a decade.

In June 2015, Mr Acharya took up a role with Novotech, a private firm based in Sydney which runs clinical trials.

The company became suspicious of his credentials and notified authorities.

"In September 2016, Novotech management became aware that he may have misrepresented his identity and qualifications," the company said in a statement.

"Novotech immediately took steps to investigate and contacted the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the NSW Police (amongst others)."

"Those organisations conducted their own investigations into this issue with which Novotech fully cooperated."

The fine for impersonating a doctor is AUD$30,000. That would seem to be pathetic given the fact that death might follow a bungled operation. The fine should be more like AUD$100,000 and 8 years in the slammer.

While our alleged MPs are rushing to increase the fine for impersonating a doctor they might also consider introducing a fine for impersonating a politiician.

Totally agree that the fine should be heavy as working for a drug company he would hae been giving positives for some drugs when in fact they might be failures, thus causing illness and death. The drug company shouldn't get away scot free either, how oon earth could they not have checked his credentials thoroughly. Seems like they were so anxious to get a doctor on board they weren't too bothered, no surprise with drug companies.

strip him of all he owns (family included) as it was gained through fraud.

then send him back to india 23rd class.

and let the indian aurthorities know his history.

Politicians and nappies have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.
