NBN ANYONE?

Useless as since it came here. Nobody wants to know, everyone passes the buck/blames the user/the modem/the installer/no other complaints (funny seeing as how the NBN 'van' is in my street alone a few times a month)

I am dreading the day I am forced to start using the NBN.....so far I have resisted the ghostly voices on th phone that entreat me to contact an NBN provider but I know it cannot last forever.

The NBN will never be fixed 'causeTurnbull aka the liberal party stuffed it completely by taking away the fibre to the house option and replacing it with fibre to the node. I had to get installed, didnt want to, now my Internet is slower than it was before are continual "upgrades" which means the Internet is down for hours and leave me with no access to a telephone as I dont own a mobile ph

I've had it installed and quite like it.

I skype with my son in England on a regular basis, and had trouble with the wireless pocket wifi I was using.

since we've had the NBN there's no shutting down mid-conversation, and minimal time-lag with replies.

we don't have to sign up to it until 2020 here, so not sure what to expect, we're quite happy with our existing cable connection. so we're not in a hurry to change-over

I lasted out until I got a registered letter telling me my landline phone would cease in 2 weeks so if I wanted to keep the phone I'd better choose a provider and get the NBN connected before that date.

Friends and rellies who use smart phones to call me can cause glitches in my landline so I often have to turn the modem off for a minute or two then back on again. Where my mother lives, the NBN outside work has just been done. Mum thought she was now on the NBN, We had to explain it was more complicated than that. Wait for the 2 week warning if you like but if you don't do something after that you will have no landline phone. I researched the phone only options and think there's something suitable, but as I don't live nearby another family member will have to sort it out for her once she has no choice. 🙂

It really cheeses me off that my landline service was MUCH more reliable before the NBN.

it seems to depend on what kind of internet user a person is, most of the ones i hear saying the NBN is good dont actually need high speed internet.

90% of us prolly dont, today.

but this was a plan for the future when 90% of us will need high speeds to get the future of entertainment.

i see the days of free tv coming via an tv antenna on your roof ending and everything on your tv will be delivered via the NBN system.

but that wont happen now as the stupid NBN we got cant cope with 15 million people watching programs via the slow speed of NBN.

sad we are so far behind other countries with intnet speed still, we should have been a leader.

TONY Abbott has unveiled the Coalition's broadband policy, vowing to provide the service quicker and cheaper than Labor's NBN.

The Opposition Leader this morning said by the end of a first term of an incoming Coalition government Australian households would have a minimum broadband speed of 25Mbps.

"By the end of second term, should we get one, the vast majority of households will have access to speeds of 50Mbps," Mr Abbott said.

"We will build fibre to the node.

"So we will be able to do this for under $30 billion, compared to the over $90 billion it will cost the National Broadband Network (under Labor)."

He said the figure was in stark contrast to the more than $90 billion it was forecast to cost for Labor’s NBN.

Same here. We have been on the NBN for around 12 months and it is definitely A LOT faster and more reliable than our old internet connection. Admittedly we are lucky enough to have fibre to the home and we are paying a higher rate to access faster speeds, but all up it makes my online business much faster and more reliable. Photos load a lot quicker and we don't get the constant freeze ups and break downs that plagued our system before the NBN was installed.

Exactly Debra .... Plus the closer you are to the node they better the speed, we are furthest the node, hence the slower speed. The speed was faster BEFORE we had the NBN

I'm dreading it too. When I moved here a year ago just from a neighbouring suburb it took me forever getting the landline and internet working as they should, was so relieved when they did and had no probems since. But I've heard of so many complaints about NBN I feel a bit sick thinking about it. .It seems everyone passes the buck.

I certainly hope that doesn't happen in the near future.

NBN may have it's problems, but satellite internet not only has a slight lag, it's also quite a bit more expensive.

We can't get anywhere near the same data for a similar price, so don't use any streaming services at the moment, and wouldn't be able to watch much TV at all - except maybe for pay TV as long as it's still delivered by another satellite - our roof looks a bit like a NASA base with the dishes on the roof!

The real problem is the original concept from Labor was the wrong answer to the right question !!!

If every Australian genuinly needs a high speed broadband, ( and thats pretty debatable ) and the tax payer should provide it, so that people can watch Game of Thrones in high definition ( and its also pretty debatable whether that is a responsible use of taxpayers money ) then the system should have been designed to meet Australian conditions.

Copying fibre to the home from overseas countries where populations are highly concentrated in small areas was never going to work in Australia. Our population is spread out too widely and thinly for the overseas model to ever work here. Sure fibre to the home may have been viable in heavily built up areas, but a much better system would have been to invest 30 billion or 90 billion dollars ( based on who you believe ) in satelite technology. It is already being used as part of the system including in many city areas.

The problem is, all of the money has been wasted on fibre to the node or home and there isnt enough left to adequetly fund the satelite technology. The satelites are getting overloaded as Governments are finding it is simply too expensive to run cables all over the country and are placing too many people on the inadequate satelite system.

All up the whole thing has been a crock up from start to finish, because the basic premise of fibre to the home was never going to be affordable or viable in Australia.

Worse still it locks Australia into a technology that is obsolete before it has even been rolled out. Sure hospitals, universities and big business will benefit from fibre well into the future, but the idea that the general population will be relying on being plugged into a socket in the wall for their technology in 10 - 15 years time is ludicrous. Technology is changing very rapidly and portability is integral to the change. Current mobile phone and portable computer use has already shown the fibre technology is old school and obsolete..

The whole idea was simply dreamt up as a vote buying excercise. Labor voters loved it and so the Liberals had to come up with a "me too plan' or risk losing an election to voters who,s main interest was playing computer games or watching movies on their big screen tellies from Mr. Harvey.

The whole thing has just been plain dumb from start to finish.
