Scott Morrison Egged By A Beanie

Scott Morrison was egged by a female protester at a Liberal Party election campaign event on Tuesday morning.

A 25-year-old wearing a red beanie and a T-shirt reading 'feminist' targeted the Prime Minister at the Country Women's Association in Albury, New South Wales.

The egg missed but the assailant's hand slammed into Mr Morrison's head before his bodyguards grabbed her and wrestled her from the venue where she was arrested by police.

It later emerged the woman accused of the violent protest describes herself as a university student and casual retail worker.

After the egg was thrown, Mr Morrison appeared shocked and rubbed the back of his head as his bodyguards descended on the woman. The egg was later found unbroken.

there is no excuse for violence against mr morrison, he IS the current PM and deserves respect. i dont agree with his politics but we all get our chance to let him know how we feel on the 18th on may.

this childish woman needs to GROW UP.

BTW, her pitiful stunt knocked over an innocent bystander making it even worse!

the boy who 'egged' the other politician also over stepped the mark but as no one was harmed it was a lesser crime.

the vision of this woman giving the 'thumbs up' to cameras was pretty sad.

no doubt had some fool knocked her grandma to the ground she would think that was fine too.

I believe you have to earn respect, not that it is simply 'deserved' because he is PM

The office of Prime Minister deserves respect, even if the incumbent does not.

At the rate we are going we are turning into just another emerging country where we expect violence to be associated with exercising our democratic rights.

I for one will only vote by postal vote.....I have seen too much pushing and shoving at polling stations to feel safe as I use a walking stick.

I think she needs to be charged and the sentence should not be just a slap on the wrist.

This has nothing to do with my politics or what i think of Scott Morrison, but everything to do with the position he holds.

He is a politician and the PM. he has no choice in this occupation but to be in the public eye. As such, he has the right to be safe.

I think exactly the same about people in other occupations, who may be attacked for working in their public role eg police, nursing staff, paramedics.

People have the right to a safe workplace and those who make it unsafe need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The problem as I see it is this. Politicians are in a position where the threat of being killed on duty is real. Okay, so the woman had an egg this time. What if it had been a knife? What if it had been a gun?

What if one of the minders had thought in the split seconds of the action occurring, that it was a gun or a knife and had shot the woman?

She may very well give a thumbs up this time but she would be outraged if she was sitting in a hospital bed with a bullet wound, but here's the thing-it would be her fault and sooner or later, this is the sort of thing what will happen.

years ago there was a case where a boy with a knife was surrounded by a few police and ran at them, saying he would kill them. they shot him, he died, There was outrage in the community that a 16 year old could be shot, how brutal etc etc. But here's the thing-what did he think might happen?

We live in a society where young people think they can do anything they like without consequence. It's a dangerous mind set and that's why she needs to be prosecuted and have serious jail time.

I don't know that he necessarily deserves our respect as such, but the office does.

And if we value our democracy, our PM should be kept safe.

That means that attacking them, hitting, egging, stabbing, shooting is not acceptable.

If we do accept it, we'll later wonder why our politicians are inaccessible.

I'm guessing that no one would get away with it in USA, there's a real risk they'd end up dead if they tried to attack the pres, which is why it doesn't happen too often over there.

I think the us and them thing needs to be put on hold when a politician becomes the victim of violence, irrespective of what party the person belongs to. If an individual does not draw the line at violence then it tells us more about that person than the politician.

You may not personally agree with our country's involvement in various conflicts, but that's neither here nor there as you haven't been elected to represent others. Nor has beanie woman.

The PM and his party are elected to govern. That doesn't mean everyone in the country will agree with their policies, but there's a way to show if you disagree and it's in the ballot box.

She most likely does have some issues.

The real worry is that people like this (and much worse) are among us and I'm not sure she should have been able to get quite so close to the PM in the first place. That egg could have been a knife.

Oh and no, a lot of people, especially younger ones, don't stop and wonder, "Now, what do i think might happen if I do this?"

eg they'll hit someone, get hit back somehow, then act surprised. I'd guess that she is feeling proud of herself, which is why the sentence should be hefty enough to wipe the smile off her face.
