Scott no empathy was just on TV wishing everyone a merry Christmas.
Thanks to this man that has no empathy I will have the worst Christmas ever.
I will be receiving cash for Christmas from my mum and sister and all of it will be spent paying for my lawn to be cut and edges trimmed.
So instead of getting some relief from a constantly tight budget it's just the same thing.
Oh well, good thing I'm such a pessimist because it's nothing I aren't already expecting.
I know that Christmas is a stressful time for most but for me a normal Christmas is stress free and time to visit family and friends and have a break from the rest of the year

Martin, have you thought about moving into somewhere smaller?

A unit perhaps. Surely that much land around you is unnecessary.

I know there's probably not that much available in the town where you live, but this mowing cost is excessive, to say the least.

Stawka, I own my house and I wouldn't get enough for it to move.
If I was lucky I'd get fifty for it then after fees I'd be lucky to have forty five.
Nothing you can buy with that

I'm looking at another thirteen months of the Idiopathic Brachial Neuritis and pretty much another two years maybe more of the Adhesive Capulitis of the shoulder.
Next year will just be more of the same but with a reduction in pain and hopefully an increase in the range of movement by this time next year.
I just have to put my life on hold for the time being because it's a long tunnel

I know it's ecologically unfriendly, but I'd go the scorched earth policy and poison the heck out it, or at least some of it to get that bill down.

Martin how much land has to be mowed?

Have you tried using a Community notice board to advertise for someone willing to do the mowing.....it might suit some unemloyed person or someone wanting bit of extra money, especially if they can use your mower.

I hope you are not using Jim's Mowing......they are scandalously overpriced.

I know they're more expensive.
Using a local business
To comply with the local fire abatement laws I just have to pay.
Normally it would have stopped growing by now but we're getting a lot of unseasonal rain

Lawn mowing costs in this town are no cheaper than anywhere else and never try getting some assistance from the local council Home Help service 'cause it ain't going to happen.

People who dont live in the bush really have NO idea how limited the services are for those who need them

They're doing it in less than four hours and it takes me nearly ten.

With all this rain the grass is growing while we look at it Martin ..... I have noticed there has been plenty of baling going on, looking like a good yr for the farmers around here.

How much land are you on? Can you chuck a cpl of sheep on it?

Lyhargr, Lyndal wasn't suggesting the Council home help.

She said the local Community Board Notices. Like at the supermarket, for instance.

Might be some unemployed bloke who will use Martin's mower, who'll do it cheaper, just to get some extra money.

I understand he's under an obligation to keep the grass down, but he's not under an obligation to pay huge prices.

I've tried using someone to use my equipment but they kept breaking things.
Lost the fuel cap off the trimmer.
So now my lawnmower needs repairing and I can't do it myself

Bumma re sheep Martin .... mind you, most of them are up to the "legpits" in grass atm

I though about chucking one in my b/yard but dunno if I wanna keep raking up the "droppings" all the time ..... Might come to it later on down the track when hubs can no longer mow it ..... He bought an electric/ self propelled mower from Aldi, makes it so much easier for him, not having to push it along

I do know how limited services are in the bush.....and what farmers go through.

I have relatives who ran a dairy farm on the north coast of NSW for many years. The farm was sold when he died and she moved into the local township. She is now well in her eighties and needing help, as are several of her neighbours who are in a similar position.

She has several grandchildren who have stepped up to help.....and organised their friends to help her neighbours who are not so fortunate. The old people pay about half what a commercial mowing service would charge and end up with all their gardening done.

And no matter what jobs are needed there is alway somene who can help.

I suppose that is what comes of living in the same area for generations. I can remember my relative's parents helping elderly neighbours out nearly 60 years ago now.

And just for your information.....the local council services here are pretty limited and very overpriced for those needing help. It is not limited to country people.

Yeah I get the impression, no matter where people live, there are too many need helping and not enough people employed by the council ( or wherever ) to help them
