In Australia only 1% of cases are critical and out of them expect only a small percentage to succumb

Most probelm cases are imports - caught outside Australia , is why we have a chance to nip this in the bud

99% of cases admitted are not considered critical , so can expect full recovery or at least stable living

One thing I have been interested in but have not seen mentioned a lot is what the expected total infection % is likely to be.

I did find an American report that suggested they might see 20% of the population actually get the virus, even with their current policies in place.

In USA they have about 300 million people, so that would be about 60 million coming down with the virus.

Although most will ultimately recover, the death rate is likely to be somewhere between 1-2%.

I know it doesn't sound much when viewed as a %, but that could work out to over a million deaths.

The actual projection was that between 20-60% of the population may ultimately catch the virus, but I presume they hope that by delaying the spread, there may be a vaccine against it down the track or it may mutate to something not quite as deadly.

In Australian figures, we have about 30 miliion people, so we could be looking at about 3-6 million getting it. And a death rate of 1-2% of those. So conservatively, maybe about 60,000 deaths?

With the social isolation measures in place, I am guessing they are hoping to reduce the total infection numbers to well under 5% of the population, if possible.

What I am finding wondrous is that China was able to contain it so quickly and they did not have an infection rate of anywhere like 5 % of their total population. They put draconian measures in place, things that only a communist regime could get away with, but their death total is exceptionally low, given their total population numbers.

this pandemic.

The economy is weak across the world and it's likely that the Chinese will buy/invest heavily and this is their

perfect oppertunity to try and control the world even futher.

Correction to my post 97,419 deaths. There was a decimal point missing before the last three digits, so I guess .292 would not be a whole person.

I interesting to monitor such activity - although I suspect they have been knocked about much more than they are willing to admit , i suppose the volume of "situations vacant" in their newspapers will be a good indicator

I can only go what was posted yesterday and my information said it doubled every 3 to 4 days. 13-15% may sound a lot less but it is based on a percentage of a larger number than previously. We shall see how it unfolds. Unfortunately the increase slowing may not be all good news, in that it may just encourage some to go back to their previous bad habits. Today is the first day when shopping that I noticed most people adhering to the distancing rules. Last week many were blase, in particular the Woolworths employee who brushed past me and other shoppers in the checkout aisle, and then loudly defended her actions, when people protested. Woolworth's motto "A Safe Place to Work and Shop"

Sorry about the missing decimal point. Should have read 97,419 deaths. I am just one of those flawed human beings who sometimes makes mistakes.
