Mobile plan prepaid

Can anyone help? Virgin has ceased providing prepaid mobile credit, and I am looking for another provider. I have the phone only for emergencies, eg flat tyre while I am out, very rarely send a message, so I need a very cheap plan. Do not want to pay a lot for nothing.

The one I had was $15 for 6 months, or less time if I used the credit.

I have an Optus prepaid phone that I pay $30 for 6 months or less if I use the credit before the time is up.

There are cheaper plans but I have not investigated the terms.

This plan gives me free calls to other Optus mobiles....so it costs nothing to call most family members.

If you recharge before you use all your time/data it carries over but if you let it run out you start the time with the basic time only.

My plan first started 15 years ago and they mucked it up from the start where instead of having to recharge

before the six months was up it just kept adding on and now I rarely recharge it.

Lyndal, I also had that plan with Optus. I say 'had'

I got a new 'smart' phone - kept the same phone number, but that plan was no longer available.

Now I have to recharge for $30 every 6 weeks.

That was the cheapest Optus plan I could get without involving data.

My OH has to get a new smart phone and I remembered you had recently aquired one.

Can you tell me what you got and are you happy with it?

I am with iiNet which uses the Optus network. There are no contracts.

The one I'm on is $15 per month

It works for me because I use the wifi at home for data and I seem not to make $550 worth of calls

(I also have $5 unlimited voip calls attached to my internet plan)

Lyndal, I was in a quandary. I just didn't have a clue, but I needed a 4G phone.

I ended up with the cheapest I could find at the time. I didn't want to buy on-line.

I bought a Huawei Y6 2018 for $99 at the PO. There are reviews on You Tube

I had to go into an Optus store to buy a nano sim and for them to make the change over and to keep my number. But I didn't change over until I had played long enough with the new phone to be comfortable with it.

I'm very happy with it now - except for the size. It's a 6" screen. But I'll get used to that too.

Opel has a 'flip phone' if he doesn't want data. It has no internet service.

Usually available at the PO for about $129?

Also Opel has a big button phone for $99

Thanks Stawks....that gives me somewhere to start.

We do want data.....we now have to have a MyGovID and the starting point is having a smart device. Grrrrr!
