But I did know about the cubed poo - wombats were someone's special subject on Hard Quiz and that was the only thing I remembered!

little known fact

as a member of the 'bat' family they sleep hanging upside down from high branches of trees in groups of hundreds and often fly about during the night!

their wings remain hidden during the day when they are turned into ground dwelling fluffy bunnies.

but they had nothing to do with the spread of the virus!

it was a question on The Chase last year (in the multiple choice round head to head with the Chaser)

After that episode I googled it.

When we were in Tassie in March we saw some in the wild . . . poo, that is.

It is something that you don't forget.

When I was a kid I sold newspapers after school in the city. We had to call out the news headline. One afternoon the headline was about a guy who escaped from a mental institution, met and had sex with a (consenting) woman and then vanished. They wanted to find and return him.

Another kid who was selling the papers down the road started yelling...

Diana used to call William Wombat.

I scored full marks on the quiz but I had the advantage of having done it before.

Not sure why anyone would call wombats "fluffy".....cute maybe but never fluffy. Their coat is actually quite coarse.

Many years ago I was asked to help "babysit" some native animals for a group of photographers.....the little wombat took 2 of us to chase him around. He bolted around with all the speed and finess of a miniature Mack Truck and too bad if you got in front of him....he believed in going straight ahead....through, not round anything in his path.

But like any baby, when he had had enough he just flopped and went to sleep.
