to carry on like a schoolboy over the death of anyone is bad enough but there were 3 children killed too.

btw, this is the same government who told us about weapons of mass destruction so i have little faith in it even happening.

as a world leader he leaves so much to be desired....so sad a man i never saw before

The killing of one of the terrorist leaders probably is a triumph for the US military, if we're honest. Not easy to achieve. These leaders often deliberately surround themselves with civilians, putting those civiliams in danger.

But Trump should absolutely not go tweeting about it. In fact, he'd be a lot better off if he didn't tweet about anything, he doesn't do himself any good.

And it is a really bad idea to go stating, in a pleased sort of tone, that the man died like a dog. Or that IS followers are frightened puppies. It's inflammatory talk. One thing I hate about Islamic State is the way they have beheaded people and gloated over it, even put it on youtube. Gloating puts it into the next level of brutality. Trump should steer clear of putting himself on the same low level.

Personally, I think it would just be enough to report that a terrorist leader was dead, killed by US forces.

It's not the same situation and "gloating" is subjective.

To put it bluntly, I am delighted Ivan Milat is dead. If that is considered "gloating" so be it.

Serial killers are a sub species in my opinion, not that different from the specialised mongrels who kill in the name of their backward primal urges simply because they want to and can; the killer's demise is a relief to the rest of us who do not and would not (murder other humans).

That's a valid question.

For what it is worth, I believe it affects us all when the Milat types do what they do. It is beyond explanation.

Perhaps it is more to do with that particular kind of human condition which is kept hidden until it strikes and leaves innocent people wondering how safe they really are on any given ordinary day in ordinary places, let alone where it is known to be dangerous ..

True, but as he was already in custody, his death has no relevance to our safety. Dont get me wrong, I have no sympathy, but also dont feel any satisfaction (if thats the right word), and definately no relief, as he posed no current threat.

I write about how these killers affect all innocent people; so it's not about me in particular, whether they are in custody or not.

Conversely, the Milats of this world are always a threat while they are still alive, even to the staff whose job it is to guard them, so in my opinion, these insane killers become twice as dangerous when they have nothing to lose.

There is a part of me that thinks capital punishment is a great idea for certain killers, but then again, given all the mistakes that are made where innocent people are wrongly executed, it is not worth the risk. It is a dilemma.

A number have been proven innocent due to DNA - thank goodness.

But where there is ' beyond doubt ' - not ' reasonable doubt ' - as in those animals who took the young life of Anita Cobby.

Never to be released - but still live.

It's called ' justice '.

What, You think Milat was the original. The only uniqueness to the Belangalo killings, was the location, but evan that may not be that unique, there have since been two murders in the Belangalo Forest that I am aware of, dont know if there were any or how many before Milat.

Milat should have been shot like a mad dog, the family of the people murdered may have some peace now, maybe not, does any one really get over that 🙂

As for Trump , well it was really really big in fact it was HUGE and Trump did it all on his own.

It was much bigger and better them Bin Laden so Trump says.

On the other hand sad about the 3 children, poor little kids born to that and to die like that.

I haven't seen anyone much saying they were sorry Milat was dead, that's true.

And a lot of people are happy he is dead.

There is one obvious difference though.

We're not on the world stage, we're on a tiny little messageboard and we're just hoi polloi.

The leader of a country needs to be a little bit more circumspect in his language. What the leaders and military say in private is one thing, but what Trump tweets should be quite another. His emotive language could just heighten world tension, make things worse.

As for Milat, it was costing taxpayers good money to keep him in prison. And just speaking generally, criminals are often perfectly capable of directing further criminal activities from prison, so in some of our worst, most serious cases, I think there could be a case made for capital punishment. Not as a routine punishment but in extraordinary cases. Some of those who are most against it are perfectly happy with the idea of abortion or legalised euthanasia.

So sure, why wouldn't we be pleased to see the last of Milat? Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is no loss to the world either.
