Actually he IS found guilty by a court of law. Duh.

Courts only have to show Guilty or Not Guilty. Not Guilty means that there was not sufficient evidence to determine that he/she did commit the crime and doesn't mean they're innocent. Robert Hughes was found Guilty.

Lol, Bobeh, you missed my point as usual. There is just as much evidence Robert Hughes is guilty as there is that Craig Mclachlan is - meaning zilch. Just the words of a bunch of girls. In both cases you and nobody else can prove what, if anything, happened. Get it?

It's not quite that simple for Robert Hughes. Despite management of the TV company initially doing nothing despite complaints, there was one actor in the show (Ben Oxenbould) who said he caught Hughes molesting a child on the set, and when he and other cast members spoke out about Hughes, the producer wouldn't sack him but eventually a guard was posted to protect children on the set.

I think it's disgusting that Ben Oxenbould witnessed a grown man raping a child and did nothing about it. Where's the proof he contacted the police? And if they did nothing why did Oxenbould stay with the show? He didn't stop Hughes from raping the young child so he obviously didn't stick around to protect the kids on the set. He was powerless and he knew it. No, he stayed with the show for the fame and the money and because it was a hit series.

Any one of the cast had enough fame to make this story public at the time. While it would have ended the show and Hughes' career and possibly their own, it might have protected the girl. But no, they put themselves first and it's ironic, because none of the cast are household names now. They could have been known for saving her life and instead, today, they are known for nothing.

Firstly a complaint to police was made against Robert Hughes BEFORE he was in Hey Dad but the parents of the seven-year-old later told the court that they took their story to police but decided not to pursue charges because they didn't want to put their child through a trial. So there's an opportunity missed. Perhaps the police should have investigated further before Hey Dad but they didn't.

Secondly, there is no mention of witnessing rape. Molesting was what he said and that takes in many other offences aside from rape. Like many of the cast who were suspicious about or possibly knew of Hughes' tendencies, Ben Oxenbould told his boss - the show's producer Gary Reilly who did nothing. Under those circumstances anyone not a star of the series raising the issue outside the set may not have been believed against Hughes himself with the support of management. Whistleblowers initially (in many many kinds of scenarios) are usually the ones to suffer, not the offenders.

Bearing in mind it was some years (2010) before the victim Sarah Monaghan spoke publicly about what happened, perhaps you are not aware that at the time of the offences, Sarah Monaghan was the primary income earner for her family when her father died just before Hey Dad debuted. Possibly the cast were aware of her family circumstances which might have been a factor....after all, she could have quit the series sooner but didn't because presumably it would affect her family.

As for post Hey Dad, some of the actors have since retired, some are still acting and some have left the business to persue other interests. Concerning Ben Oxenbould, he is still acting but it has not been easy. His 'crime' while working in the entertainment industry was not staying on Hey Dad, but ironically, speaking out against Robert Hughes. *shrugs*

Lol, that's so wrong - you're incorrect about everything. To start with, why are you bringing up another case when in your original post you are referencing Ben Oxenbould? That situation with the seven year old had nothing to do with the Ben Oxenbould situation so I don't know why you're explaining the ins and outs of another situation as if I had referenced that particular one in my reply. I had not. Because you hadn't brought it up.

You are totally incorrect when you state that molestation isn't rape. It most certainly is. Rape can take many forms, as can molestation but they are one and the same. Check with the police, thanks. You're wrong that Ben Oxenbould wouldn't have had support from front office had he revealed what had happened. When someone goes public with molestation accusations against a public figure, inevitably other 'victims' come out of the woodwork. It would have been a snowball effect and the producers and the network heads would have had no choice, with the inevitable negative publicity, to follow suit and fire Hughes to save face and save the studio. Most likely other cast members would have been compelled (or forced) to speak up in support of Oxenbould to save face and save their names. In fact, it all started with Oxenbould. He could have not only saved Sarah, the other victims and future victims, he could have revolutionized the industry and put child molesters in the entertainment business on guard. But he did nothing.

Are you saying Hughes wouldn't have suffered if he'd been outed as a pedophile and Oxenbould would have because he was 'a whistleblower'? Rubbish. He would have been seen as a hero and even if Hughes hadn't been charged, mud sticks and his career would have deservedly ended.

Sarah Monaghan left the show many episodes before the end of the series so her parents can't have been that desperate for her salary. They replaced her with another child. If this scandal had gone public she would have been lauded publicly, a crusader of children's rights. It might have gotten her into politics. She might have won 'Australian Of The Year.' It almost certainly would have led to another series or more work as with the public goodwill and support behind her, the businessmen who run the networks would have seen her as box office gold. But her time in the entertainment business really ended with the show. So she couldn't have been worse off for speaking out at the time and she could possibly have become an important public figure which she didn't by keeping quiet. Where's the money to support her family now? Her only 'show-biz' payments of recent years have been earned by ACA interviews and magazine spreads which casts doubt on her revelations since she profited from them. Infact all the cast were paid for outing Hughes, including Ben Oxenbould, which may be the motivation for his publicly exposing of another cast member.

To sum up: it would have only helped Sarah and her family to reveal the truth when it happened. She also would have been paid handsomely for interviews, even if the actual details of the case couldn't be discussed (because of her age). She'd have been Australia's Sweetheart - Nicki Webster with a cross.

Lol, Ben Oxenbould's career was long over way before he outed Robert Hughes as a pedophile. It had no effect on his career because he didn't have one. Check his wikipedia page - not a very impressive resume of work, to be honest. He came out with the truth because he had nothing to lose. He didn't gain anything because he is not a remarkable entertainer. Why would he be hired in anything regardless of what he said or says? He peaked on 'Hey Dad' and concealed what happened at the time because he had nothing else. And in retrospect, never would. That applies for the rest of the 'Hey Dad' cast. Actor's don't retire from the business, the business retires actors. Naturally if they can't get acting work, they 'pursue other interests.' It's a stock-in-trade line for actors who are unemployable. Considering what the cast knew, some from first hand knowledge, they deserved the professional lives they got, which was not exactly prestigious in the slightest.
