Few at the height of the second wave could have envisaged Victoria would begin 2021 in such a favourable position," the report says.

The state's labour market also bounced back fasted than Deloitte first anticipated, with employment increasing 4.8 per cent in the two months to November.

published at the end of last month Jan 18th.. but you can google it yourself 4chan... its all over the net

Common sense dictates that those states that have not suffered the same amount of economic damage as Victoria, have not got as far to rebound. Basically the economy has never really stopped in South Australia as our virus outbreaks have been jumped on quickly and snuffed out before they have got out of hand. ( South Australia pioneered the short sharp lockdown technique Andrews has copied in this latest outbreak )

But politics aside, on the Victorian economic bounce back, I genuinely wish you well. No-one wants to see one state lagging behind the rest as a result of the virus and when it is going well Victoria has the potential to be an engine room for the Australian economy.

the unemployment stats from each state were shown by Alan Kohler on ABC news tonight.... interestingly alhough the economy has never stopped in South Australia... the unemployment rate there is one of the highest, coming in at 7.1 compared to Vic. which is 6.3 despite the disruption to our economy. In NSW the unemployment rate is 6

Sadly that's very true. After a 16 years of incompetent Labor governments South Australia's economy is a total basket case. Its going to take at least another decade of steady, reliable Liberal governments to try to repair some of the damage. Even then, things have got so bad, that I,m not sure anyone can fix it..

We sat there for more than a decade watching things deteriorate under a similar government style to Dan Andrews. Lots of talk and media appearances. Lots of super expensive ribbon cutting on bread and circus, populist carp that might win votes, but would never create a dollar for the state and the anti business sector attitude, that stifled private enterprise initiative and encouraged our best and brightest to go somewhere else.

The Liberals had barely taken office when COVID hit so like other governments, have not had time to do anything other than keep the state afloat..

I,ve always advocated and practiced swinging voting, allowing Labor to repair the social damage the Liberals cause and the Liberals to repair the economic damage Labor causes.

South Australia is a classic example of what can happen when a stupid voters keep Labor in office for too long, to the point the states economy is now wrecked beyond repair.

On one of my visits to England I remember a few foreign students (as in not from England) complaining that they couldn't get a discount when they visited stately homes and other tourist attractions. I had to bite my tongue to stop myself from saying if they could afford to go at all then they could afford to pay full price.

I didn't read the link but maybe the family in question had someone pay for the trip for them. I know someone who goes on cruises that are paid for by someone else and they never declare it to Centrelink. One day they'll get caught out (I hope so). You're not supposed to get paid at all while you're out of the country and anyone who travels overseas has to take the risk that they'll get trapped there if something unforeseen happens (war, volcanoes, earthquakes, ill health, disease outbreak, government coup, etc etc).

The point seems to be - a family of 5 - travel to China - knowing the rules of overseas travel while on Centrelink payments.

They now find themselves in difficulty.

We know s....t happens - but meanwhile - the Australian taxpayer is funding a holiday for 5 - though it maybe - not quite the holiday they expected - they chose.

To be able to afford this - for 5 - along with maintaining rent on their Sydney home - along with utilities - even though not in use - still incur a service charge - begs a question.

While others on similar payments - are barely able to survive.
