good op-shops...

Hey Melbourne people, im headed your way in Sept and hope to visit some recomended ( by you ) op-shops.

Im primarily looking around the Dandenong, Frankston,Berwick area's.

Any suggestions most welcome.:-)

p.s. It's been years since i was at the Carribean Markets, are they any good ?

Check out the Victoria markets, as well ... and the clothes shops ... designer made clothing, one-off pieces ... there's an area with lots of these kinds of shops ... it's a long time since I went there, but I got fantastic items for low prices ... and knew that when I returned to Canberra, I'd be the only person with these items.

Frankston, not sure, but, if you come down the Mornington Peninsula..............

Mornington, Main St: Vinnies, RSPCA, Salvo's, then I know of one other off Main St, can't think of the st, but if you are interested can find out.

Dromana, I think there is 2

Rosebud, there is 10, that I can think of right now... wait I think I missed one, 11, or maybe 10, keep losing count.

Rosebud West there is 1

There used to be one at Tootgarook, but don't know if it is still there, there is 2 at least in Rye, not sure if there is any at Sorrento.

Oh, forgot Mt Eliza, there is 2 there.

Not to mention places like Sommerville, Balnarring, and others.

I havn't been to Rosebud in prolly 30 years......lol....

Oh, and in Rosebud there is the Vintage Bazaar, not op-shoppy, but well worth a look.

Vintage Now (Linda) has a stand there/

There are some wonderful clothes and items there.

I haven't posted links, but if you are interested just google those names. 😄

Was a good one in Flinders only open on Wed.

Did very well from that one--still have some of the books.

Might not be there now because that was 45 years ago................Richo.

Trish, there's the Sunday Camberwell market. A load of worthless items but a bargain can be found. Also, if you don't mind the drive, Philip Island has a very upmarket Salvation Army - you can find some good quality items and visit the penguins in one go. 🙂

Definitely passed a decent sized oppie in Frankston, leaving the station on the way to the large shopping centre. Looked good, open on a Sunday but we were pushed for time so only glanced. We'd just grabbed the next random train leaving from Melbourne and ended up there so a quick lunch then back to head to airport. Love Melbourne!

Trish, a good tip is to look for op-shops in the more well-to-do areas. Wealthy housewives are not going to drive to the Western suburbs to offload last season's clothes.

OP shops - Glen Huntly Road, Caulfield South. One is called the "Posh Op Shop", I think it's the corner of Koornang Road. It's awesome. Bit more pricey, but that's because it has better stuff - designer stuff as well. Lots more on Glen Huntly Road, heading towards Nepean Highway.

Amaroo Op Shop, off Waverley Road, between Huntingdale Road and Warrigal Road (suburb not sure), it's near Chadstone shopping centre. Cheap as chips and sometimes bargains.

Vinnies Opshop on Warrigal Road, near Chadstone Shopping Centre (near intersection of Dangenong Road). Great bargains, especially in the furniture section.

Agree about the ones on the Mornington Peninsula, especially between Rosebud and Rye! Lots of deceased estates there, hence the amount of "stuff". BUT the clothes/shoes are often cheap brands, rare good brands.

savers recycle stores are excellent, the locations are listed at http://www.savers.com.au/, the Brotherhood of St Laurence one at Moonee Ponds is pretty good too.

Trish, I've been to Carribean Market through the week, and it was great for food, but I haven't been there on a weekend. I've heard the Mornington market is really good, but I don't know when it's on, certain Sundays monthly I think. There are a couple of OP shops in Mornington as well.

You'll love the shopping here, almost every shopping strip has an oppie, so you'll probably find heaps of them

If you like antiques, Tyabb is a good place to wander around, the packing house is pretty expensive, but worth looking at

I recommend the DFO (Designer Factory Outlet) in Cheltenham it's worth a wander around, I've been known to spend a whole day walking around in there 😄
