Tracking shows no scans

Hi all, purchased an item from a NSW Central Coast Business on 29th August. They didn't supply a tracking number until I asked two days ago, when the item failed to show up. It is only going to NSW Central West. When I try and track it with the supplied number, it says ''no scans available'' for the item. I would have thought that it should show at least one scan when the item was lodged into the Aust Post system, as mine normally say ''information recieved'' at least. Then in the next day os so, it will say ''in transit''. To me, this item has not being sent in the first place, or something is seriously wrong in the postal system. Has anyone had this happen where a tracking number never gets scaanned between lodgement and delivery? Any help would be good.

Not necessarily, if it was put into a postbox.

Might show the first scan 3-4 days later.

And it's only 2 days after a weekend.

Sent on 29th August, and no scans since. I understand about the weekends, yes, but even with that taken into consideration, should have been scanned by now, one would think.

As a buyer I never look at any tracking...it is after all for the protection of the seller.

I only keep an eye on the EDD & wait say a week for that to pass...we do have the eBay MBG to protect us.

Btw...howdy neighbour...I'm also in the Central West.

You said you purchased the 29th and messaged seller 2 days ago.

If the seller had forgotten and didn't send until you contacted them was my reason for my response.

I recieved the usuall Ebay advice on the 29th that the item was ''on it's way'', in other words, it was ''supposed '' to have been sent on the 29th. I waited until a couple of days agoo, more than enough time for delivery. IMO.

Yes.

I have both sent and received items where the only events scanned are "on board for delivery" and "delivered". It does happen.

What is the latest Estimated Delivery Date for your item? I wouldn't worry unless the latest date has passed, and even then the EDD may well have been unrealistic. But you'll know how and when and what in these sorts of cases... While I would probably wait a week or so beyond eBay's EDD, I know others may act more quickly.

Esiimated delivery date was the 5th August, well past. I will await todays mail and if it doesn't show up, I will request a refund. I have already told the seller this, with no reply. I also asked the seller if they were investigating the matter with Aust Post, also no reply. They did supply the so called tracking number quickly when I requested it a few days ago though. Beats me why it wasn't supplied when the item was marked as ''sent'', just like the majority of sellers do, including myself.

I must repeat, this item has no valid scans showing on the system, no lodgement scan, and no movement scans at all.

Just recieved this from Aust Post. Looks like someone has being outright lying about the item being sent. I will call Aust Post when they open this morning and get confirmation on the lodgement date of the item. '' Your item is on it's way. Processed in Sydney at 12.18am today.'' Unless Aust Post has been sitting on it for 14 days, this seller is looking at some red marks.

I agree, that is very strange if an item was actually posted on 29 Aug, for it to show absolutely no tracking details till today.

I think it is a good idea for you to check up when it was lodged though before you decide on the feedback, just in case it was held up in the Aust post system. Sometimes it happens but it isn't all that common in my experience and usually tracking will show the movement through the system. If it arrives today, you will know though that it probably missed a couple of updates.

If the seller was lying and it was only posted yesterday, then that's not good, because delivery was expected on 5th Sept. So if it wasn't posted till after that and seller lied, neg feedback is fair enough. Check the postage stamp on the parcel, if there is one.

If the seller forgot to post or if a mix up occurred, they would have been better off apologising, explaining and then sending express if possible. Mistakes happen and as long as they are made good, it is okay.

But...no seller could have relied on any buyer being so patient. Many would have opened an item not received claim back between 6th-9th Sept and I am wondering if the seller just intended to refund the money if that happened but has gone ahead to post after your queries.

The fact you got no replies to your messages rings a warning bell to me (unless it is a very new seller). In my experience people often ignore messages if they know they can't supply the details you want. They think, "I'll answer when I've done it."

I wouldn't go blaming the seller just yet because I remember once when I took a parcel to the PO on a Saturday and there was only one employee working,he placed the tracking on it I paid for it and then I left.

Well days later there was no tracking showing so I said ok no worries I'll wait longer.

Days later still nothing so I went to query what has happened and found out that the employee hadn't placed the parcel in the parcel bag that the PO has he accidentally thought he placed it in the bag but it fell beside the bag and sat there on the ground hidden under other postal stuff.

It was only when I queried about it that we discovered the reason why it hadn't turned up.

Also a possibility that there's been a family emergency and the last thing on seller's mind is ebay.

They may be relying on someone else to look after the business for a while.

Well, after speaking to Aust Post today, they confirmed that the item was only lodged yesterday, and that's why the first scan showed up at 12 something am this morning. I opened a Paypal dispute, and advised the seller, a reasonably large organisation, not a one man show, that it is now too late for me to use the item, so they are wellcome to intercept it and have it returned to them. I required it for today at the latest, and if it does arrive in the mail Friday, our next possible delivery day, it will be returned to them, even at my cost, unopened. They have been caught lying, and yes, errors do happen, but they had the chance to come clean and didn't bother to. We are talking $250, not chicken feed. The tracking number has only just appeared on the item, in my Ebay purchase list, it was not shown before as they didn't have a tracking, obviously. They marked it as sent, when they didn't have the item to send, probably had to order it in from a wholesaler or whoever.

That is extremely bad form on the part of the seller. I'd be furious too.

Sometimes when we buy things, we allow enough time and a bit extra for things to arrive, but if a seller doesn't post anywhere near on time, they let everyone down.

Unfortunately, what this whole situation is highlighting is the fact you would have been better off to open your dispute a day after the due arrival date passed. They would not have had a leg to stand on as they had not even posted the item at that stage. You would have received your refund without a worry.

As things stand, they have the tracking number and by Friday it might show as delivered so you're going to have to ask for a return and might be up for extra costs with postage, I am not sure. You'd need to check with ebay about your situation.

I think in future, put yourself first. If you need something by a particular date and the ETA passes, don't let a seller mess you around, go straight into an item not received claim if the tracking isn't there.
