Problem with purchase.

What does it mean when there's a payment issue with an order? I bought a DVD (no tracking number provided) It was sent on 17th January and today was the deadline for delivery, seller is in Australia by the way. I put in a request thru PayPal for refund but asked the seller for one, just today, and got a hard to decipher message back from her. Seller has 6 negatives. The cost was $11.00. Usually items posted within Australia usually only take around a week or a bit over. I checked PayPal & payment has gone through no problem. This just seems slightly puzzling.

You are asking the seller for a refund and have also opened a dispute in paypal? Typical!!

Are you aware that half the country is in flames? It would not have hurt you to wait a few more days to see if it turns up.

What's the difference Lyndal the seller isn't very co operative. If the country's in flames don't get too close you'll burn.

How stupid not even getting a tracking number that's just slack. The parcel is probably in Tim buck too by now. If it does "HAPPEN" to arrive then I'll reimburse the seller for the amount.

I couldn't find the handling time. But it says she has been a member since 2007.

Michelle, if you click on the postage tab in the listing, on a computer, it will usually tell you what the seller's handling time is.

What is the difference? The difference is that if you open a dispute in ebay and paypal at the same time they will both be closed and you will not get a refund.

I asked her for tracking number but she said there isn't one. I think it's dicey to send a parcel without it. If there is a tracking number your bases are all covered.

here’s an idea michelle . . . seeing as your posts show you replying to yourself . . . how about stating your posts with the @userID method that has been suggested before! It doesn’t matter when you reply to lyndal and use her name in your post, but if there get to be many posters on this thread it will just get confusing. You can start your replies to me with @handsome if you like, I won’t mind!

The length of time a seller has been a member is irrelevant to your perceived predicament.

The seller’s handling time was 2 days

Michelle a DVD is usually sent as letter post - it's cheaper that way, but no tracking.

So you believe, with half the country burning, that that won't impact the delivery time?

As I mentioned in another thread, even if the buyer and seller aren't burning there could possibly be fires in between the two. Which would ~~possibly~~ probably impact on the delivery time.

Did you need it for the weekend? If not, why did you open a case today, rather than late next week? Are you going to repay the seller (who will be forced to refund you) when your DVD arrives?

Have you heard of sellers posting as letters low value items? The minimum casual postage rate for small parcels is around $9. Why would anybody with more than a couple of braincells to rub together post an $11 item as a parcel? Most sellers actually want to get some return for their effort - the fees for selling something for $11 are $1.79, which leaves maybe 21c, of which purchase price would have to be deducted, for a seller who used parcel post.

Oh yeah, the delivery dates you are given by eBay are eBay's interpretation of Australia Post's optimistic delivery timeframes.

Naturally you offered to pay the extra dollars to have it tracked? What part of "sent with standard delivery" don't you understand? If you weren't happy with their postage method that they stated clearly in the description, you shouldn't have bought it. No wonder they got their back up when you contacted them (AND opened a dispute). I would have too.

They're in Geraldton so mail probably takes at least two days to get to Perth, then it can easily take a week to 10 days to get to Melbourne, often longer, but you want to stick the boots in if it doesn't arrive the exact moment it's ESTIMATED to arrive, and you expect the seller to pay extra for tracking out of their own pocket.
