Scam using Ebay name

Just got scammed almost 5K by an elaborate car scam using the Ebay name. I thought I was better than that and feel dumb. Where can I report this so that others aren't ripped off too? Best, J.

Car scam... Facebook I guess? It is actually an old scam if you search the forum. I don't know how they are still getting away with it,

Yep, I left it to my daughter to organize and should have paid closer attention. Hard lesson.

they keep getting away with it because the scammers have polished their script to suit the times.

Due to the long wait times for new cars, second hand cars are increasing in value. When a ‘cheap’ cruiser, hilux or SUV is listed anywhere there will be many potential ~~buyers~~ victims of the scam. The use of a military backstory and building confidence through the offer to handle the sale through ‘eBay motors’ and a full money back offer attracts the gullible (eBay motors does not exist, eBay is a part of the scam in name only).

What a lot of people who are scammed find out well after they are scammed is they become part of future scams. Scammers who get scans/pics of a victims photo Driver Licence may find that the scammer users that scan/pic when they scam others. They provide the victim’s ID to lure future victims into a false sense of security.

A scan of a licence from an auto scam may end up being used in a ‘fb puppy’ scam. There have been several news stories about using victim ID to perpetuate another scam.

Golden rule that is ignored by victims of the ‘eBay motors’ scam is “If it sounds too good to be true, then it is too good to be true”.

If you paid by credit card, inform your provider immediately, there might be a ray of hope

Depending on how you paid, you may still have recourse.

Contact your bank right away and tell them you suspect you've been swindled.

Always......always......always...............pay cash when picking up any large purchase after inspecting it.

Even then you need to be careful it's not under finance.

My nephew purchased a Honda motor vehicle from WA to VIC.

He went to sell it 2 years later and the finance company came and took the vehicle.

He lost the car and money.

It's called REVS and will show any liens on a vehicle.

This was around 15 years ago and the available system then wasn't accurate with interstate registrations.

Hence it was re-registered into nephews name without it being flagged.

It was only years later when the potential buyer he had, also in VIC, was informed it was owned by Toyota.

The online systems are very accurate now.
