Hi there, recently purchased a TV by mistake, advertised as "free postage" and didn't read it properly and free postage meant pick up, the item was paid for with Afterpay! Next day received an email saying it was pickup only from Seller. Contacted Seller and Ebay straight away, to cancel order, after more requests to Seller to cancel order eventually received a reply to organise a courier, meanwhile TV has been paid for via Afterpay, (TV has not been sent) and still have not received a reply from Ebay or Seller (not responding) as what to do. What else can I do????

Is it too expensive for you to organize a courier as requested by the seller?

You did'nt purchase 'by mistake' you simply did not read the listing

That is not the seller's responsibility . If they put pick up only, that is what it is

Nor are they obligated to cancel

Of course the tv has not been sent, are you expecting the seller to pay for it to be shipped to you out of their own pocket?

Could you look into how much a courier would set you back.

The seller has made contact asking you to do this.

No need to fret or feel you have to go ahead with collection etc at extra unexpected expense.

It is a shame the ad said free postage and you didn't see pick up only on it. Most ads for pick up that I see are tweaked to say 'free local pick up'.

Bottom line is you cannot cancel the sale, only a seller can and you can't force them to.

You do not have to organise a courier though.

The seller is of course not going to send. Why would they as it would require them to pay the courier. Not going to happen. So you won't receive the set.

I am not sure what the seller hopes to achieve by not cancelling because the fact you have paid means he cannot give you a strike for non payment. That's usually what a seller would be aiming for with a non payer.

You have an easy out on this. You bought it, you paid. Just open an ebay claim for item not received. You'll win it as you haven't received it. If asked, just say you are unable to pick up.

If by chance an ebay claim didn't work or was knocked back, go to paypal next if you paid that way. You'll get a full refund almost immediately.

Springy - perhaps the seller is waiting on a message from the buyer to say - either they are looking into a courier - or cannot go the extra expense - and would you please cancel the sale.

I am not sure, Dom, but I think the OP first received the reply about organizing a courier, so they wrote back and said they wanted to cancel, and that's when the seller did not reply.

It has been a long weekend in some states, and the seller might have been offline if it all happened in the last few days.

Yes, that could be so. But the fact the buyer has made several requests for a cancellation should indicate they have cold feet.

But you are right-kazza should immediately message the seller to say that no, they are not interested in organising a courier, they just want to cancel the sale. See where it goes from there.

If the seller stands firm though, he (the seller) is on a hiding to nowhere. The buyer will get a refund from either ebay or paypal.

Is the seller new or relatively new? Maybe they are afraid to cop a defect if they cancel, so let them know that if they cancel with the reason "problem with the buyer's address" they won't cop a defect.

Yep - I would just message the seller to please cancel the sale - with an address problem.

As Springy mentioned in most places it is a long weekend - so who knows.
