Large variation in prices

Ok I'm trying to work out how a price for an item can be say$3000.00 and the exact item elsewhere on eBay but not far the high priced item is $5.00 or $6.00. comparing both items shows no difference.

....it might be that the $3000 item is out of stock, so the seller has inflated the price, knowing that it won't attract a buyer, whilst keeping all their stats and sales history 'firm'....then when they get more stock, they will alter the price accordingly

there is no limit to the price someone can ask, so good luck to the seller asking $3000, if some clown wants to pay that much.

What is the item actually worth?

If $5 or $6, buy from one of those sellers.

If item is worth more than $50 and you have the $5 or $6 choice or the $3k choice, look elsewhere.

The most likely explanation is Twyngwyn's.

The item is out of stock and the seller actually doesn't want you to buy it, they have set an unrealistic price, just to 'hold' things till more stock arrives.

The question of course is if the items are actually identical. Sometimes you get cheap Chinese knock off of expensive items.

I'm imagining that isn't the case here though. A $3000 ticket item might be copied for around $200 from China, but not for $6.

The obvious solution for you though is to avoid the $3000 item, just ignore it. If you want the $5-6 one, check out the sellers and their feedback. And if you can, try to buy from a seller based in Australia.

The old you get what you pay for. It must be a superbly superior item and the others must be cheap knock offs. Yeah, that must be the reason.
