If you got it via Ebay messages it is most likely legit, but tell them to deliver it at the agreed price, as that was the agreement, not your fault they stuffed up.

But if it was just an email, it is a scam which happened to coincide with your purchase, don't open it, and dont do anything. The email address it came from will be dodgy.

Shortly after buying something i got a message back saying

----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your purchase from us, unfortunately we have a short message for you, it is about the postal service, as the package size does not meet the delivery standard, our shipping partner told us after your ordering, that their shipping standard has been changed recently, the package can not be sent by this normal postal service, so we need to use another postal service to send the item, but they said that we need to pay extra 14 AUD, we can pay 10 AUD for it, will you accept to pay the rest 4 AUD? If yes, just send us your emailaddress of the P-a-y-P-a-l. Or if you have another address with different post code, we can also try again with it. We are waiting for your reply.

Kind regards
Customer service

------------------------------------------

highly sus should you reply?

This does happen from time to time... It is not a scam, it is just that delivery prices do change every year and sometimes the vendor get caught out, and it doesn't want to lose any money...

One thing you can do is tell the vendor that you wish to cancel the order if he/she cannot fulfil the original transaction, if you feel that the delivery cost is now too much...

99% of the times, the vendor than send the item and cover the entire cost of the delivery...

However, you also have the option to agree and pay the difference and using Paypal for moving small amount of cash is common. You give them your paypal email and they send a money request for the amount...

We can all make mistakes...

The *most* dodgy part in my opinion is how the write p-a-y-p-a-l (as if they want to avoid the bots picking up something) and ask about another address with a different postcode (when eBay policy states they have to post to the address provided when the buyer pays

Very sneaky IMHO

I would ignore them and open an INR dispute when they refuse to send it

But that is just me

It sounds like you are having the item sent to a PO box or rural area that may not be covered by their delivery service anymore as mentioned . Most couriers will send to these areas but it costs extra and this may be the case. Check the listing and see what they use for the delivery service.

Scam.

When you buy from a seller on ebay, they don't know how you paid for your item.

I'm not a seller, but I have been told that by a regular seller.

When a buyer pays, the money does not go direct to the seller. They collect it via managed payments and they have no idea what method buyers used when they paid for the items.

Only ebay knows that.

So in your message, you have someone, supposedly the seller contacting you, mentioning you used paypal? Scam

They are after your details. Don't reply, don't give them any information at all.

And as for paying extra, never. You pay what the sale price was & too bad if the seller miscalculated. The seller can always cancel a sale if they make a really bad mistake or else they can just wear if is it is a small amount. I used to sell and we had to do that occasionally.

But this is a scam message, I would not trust it.

Message does not state how the buyer paid. Only how to make an extra payment or use a different address for delivery. All very normal for sellers who use a courier or drop ship their items when sending to those in non metro areas.
