Hi there,

Below is item description. On one hand Condition is :Brand New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging

On the other hand at the bottom of the description it says:

Genuine Brand New in Bulk Pack (No Retail Package)

What do you reckon?

Packaging should be the same as what is available in a retail store, unless the item was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. Which could be why BUT

I would not be buying from a seller who has 10 negs in the past month alone for never sending things, ignoring buyer's complaints etc etc to start with

And nor do they come up in a search for being an authorised seller for that brand, so there is no warranty, despite the ad saying otherwise

IF this had been an authorised seller, then the 'item being packaged by manufacturer in non-retail packaging' bit would be it

A random seller makes that less likely, IMHO

I'd guess you didn't even bother to read this in the description of "brand new"...........fail on your part.

It was not about me.

The question is what people here think about this practice and if it all comes to:

"See the seller's listing for full details". Why do you need the all the descriptions before that?

But what is your opinion? Do you think? Isn't "See the seller's listing for full details" make the Condition thing redundant?

OK, it's "brand new", but for the reasons Sandy pointed out I wouldn't be buying from that seller.

I am not sure what the problem is, when large companies buy in bulk, direct from the manufacturer, retail packaging is not usually provided.

For example I have numerous cartons of electrical circuit breakers, with quantities ranging from 24 - 96 per carton, there is no individual packaging of the items, but the cartons do include a quantity of certificates relevant to the qty per carton.

So for mine, both the item descriptions you have quoted are correct.

Thanks for the reply. Does every single circuit breaker in your balk has some sort of closed package and you sell them in this package? Or they come unpacked and you just improvise a package?

They are a bulk shipment, the items have no individual packaging, the cartons are plain only stating contents, but there is a certificate provided for each individual breaker.

I sell them as is without packaging.

When I have them on ebay, I list them as new/unused. There is then a condition field

where I can stipulate New in box, or bulk supply no packaging etc, and of course this will be further stipulated in the actual item description field.

That's a good and accurate pick for condition.

I looked here it seems that Brand New condition is only for Books & Magazines and Movies & TV, Music, Video Games.

Most of the rest have New and Open Box.

I wouldn't know what are the option when you list an item as I never sold on eBay.

Thanks. Will it be right to say that if the the item description says "Genuine Brand New in Bulk Pack (No Retail Package)" the condition should be Open Box and not Brand New?

No, it is still a brand new item as supplied by the manufacturer. The only issue with using brand new as compared to new/unused, open box etc, is that brand new can leave a seller open to action from the manufacturer, if they are not an authorised re-seller.

As a buyer, I go by the premise that the more info I get, the better.

I'd be reading both sections like a hawk.

I have seen several ads like this one, where people advertise as brand new but out of original packaging. I once bought from a seller whose photos showed the items in their packets but said in the ad that they would be sent unpackaged to save on postage but if someone wanted them in the packages, it would cost extra postage. I was buying for myself so i was fine with it.

The ads I would not be fine with are the ones which advertise something as new but then go on to say only used once or whatever. That is not new. It used to be common on ebay, not so much these days, those sellers seem to have migrated to marketplace though!
