Concert tickets concern

I am really wanting to take my daughter to see One DIrection in sydney, but not sure about buying the tickets off ebay, i know the shows are fully sold and this would be my only option. I am a little concerned because the concert isnt until next year. if the tickets are fake, it will be too late to put through a paypal dispute to get my money back if they are not legit and cannot afford to waste a good $500.

I would like to know what you all think about buying tickets on ebay and if you have how did it work out for you??

Depending on the ticketing agency, there could well be a blanket ban on scalped tickets. Ticketek has one.

Part of the problem, that I can see, would be that the tickets will be in the original purchaser's name. Given they probably haven't actually been issued yet, how would you provide proof of ID in the original seller's name?

You would also be WAY out of time for a Paypal dispute or, most probably, a credit card chargeback.

Mind you, I'm biased. I don't agree with ticket scalping.

It is always risky to be buying (and selling) tickets on eBay. i think it should be banned.

Well i have never purchased tickets online, but my daughter loves one direction (she is 9) and would be a lovely birthday present for her to go next september.

I see alot of sellers selling tickets on ebay and seem to have good feedback, however it still makes me very wary. My husband doesnt like the idea its too risky. I do agree with him however i really want tickets and dont know where else to get them.

eBay states that buyers in Australia are eligable for a refund if an item does not match the description. In this case, you should be able to get a refund if the tickets are claimed as official but are actually fake. Unfortunately, if they're fake, your daughter still misses out, so your best bet is to compare a number of different tickets from different sellers and make the choice based on that. If the seller is in the same city as the show, that might be a good indication that the ticket is legitimate. If they're from Hong Kong, well, don't buy... 😉

I think all kids should experience going to a concert in life as i did, so i thought this would be a great opportunity now that she love One Direction and is old enough, she will never forget it.

Also if the tickets are non transferable, they are non transferable.

Too risky in my opinion.

Didn't realise it was for next year. Well then, they should wait until next year and only buy within a month or two of the concert to make sure they get PayPal protection. It's worth the risk (if she can afford it in the first place), as she'll get her money back regardless due to PayPal protection if the tickets turn out to be fake. Odds are, if you do your homework, the tickets you buy will be real.

Next Year is a lifetime away for a 9 year old - chances are she will have moved on to other things by the time the concert comes around.

The reason why i want to buy them now to get good seats, if i leave it close to the concert there may be none left.

On the other hand if i leave it and purchase tickets closer to the time maybe they will be heavily reduced too. ?:|

I agree with the other comments.

Too risky

too far away time-wise

too much money to spend on a 9 year old!

For way less money, if you are in a major city, you could go to a top class musical theatre production, ballet etc. that would be more memorable anyway! At One Direction all you're going to get is a lot of screaming teenage girls drowning out the music. The Beatles at one stage stopped playing because no-one could hear them through the screaming.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is coming next year I think.

Mary Poppins was fantastic, my 16 year old loved it!

Have you actually checked out Ticketec - they are selling now, and as far as I can see, there are tickets available for both Sydney and Melbourne. If you don't see it on line, give them a call, as they do sometimes pre-release and then release more later, worth the call

In all the years that I've been a boardie,I've only ever seen ONE reputable ticket seller-unfortunately I don't recall who it was but they had impeccable feedback.

JMO but no way would I buy from a private 'little' seller.I coughed up over $500 to ticketek for 2 George Michael tickets.Mind you,it will be the 1st concert that I've been to since the Eagles 'When Hell Freezes Over' tour.:8}

give your daughter a choice . . . . . . . a 'maybe' chance to get to a concert where they probably wont hear much because of the screaming OR a $400 shopping spree for Christmas. If you were prepared to outlay $500 you will be saving $100 if she chooses the shopping spree, and you wont need to buy Christmas presents as it will be a Christmas shopping spree.

Santa still visits our house. I think i will just see next year, i just dont want to risk it. It is alot of money if they are not legit.

I think loads of better things will come up between now and then. For example people were raving about the Nutcracker on Ice a couple of months ago. And for about $400 pp you can do a 4 night cruise Sydney to Sydney in the summer. What about taking a couple friends and doing a Roar and Snore sleepover at Taronga Zoo. There's a deal at Mogo Zoo where you can be a Keeper for a Day, they spend the day training you and you learn how to feed the lion cubs, giraffes etc.and get your photos taken handling the animals. Not sure if there is a minimum age requirement on that one.

The possibilities are endless.
