After I had paid for the iMac, the seller sent me a message telling me that there were no mouse or keyboard included as it was the last minute change but there was no such updated details in the description at the time the imac was paid. When I clarified that , in fact, I asked for the trackpad that was included in the description, the seller cancelled the order.

The item was put back on by the seller immediately after the cancellation without the keyboard and mouse with a higher price. Not sure if the price I paid was considered too low after it had been sold and hence the cancellation of my order.

I wonder if this practice by sellers are common. Ebay should do something about these sort of things from happening as it would not inspire any confidence for ebay buyers and we, as buyers should voice our concerns to make sure ebay putting in policies to stop them

So what you are saying, the item was incorrectly listed originally?

That the original listed did not state the mouse/keyboard was not included?

Is that correct?

And if so, that would mean you could have opened an item not as described dispute once you receive the incorrectly listed item?

But after they cancelled, the seller then listed correctly , being without the mouse and keyboard?

What policy do you suggest eBay put in place to force the seller to send?

And the seller has given themselves a defect by cancelling for being out of stock

No use telling other members what 'eBay should do'

Did the seller refund you your money?

You have left the seller a neg, giving them -1 feedback

The only time you have bothered leaving feedback

Not sure what more you want/expect

For what it's worth, I think you did the right thing by leaving the seller negative.

The seller knew exactly what he was writing in the description the first time and I don't think he made a

mistake at all , just decided he wasn't going to sell it all for the price.

The way I see it, he told you the mouse and keyboard wouldn't be included and you accepted it.

So you asked abgout the trackpad which was also offered. Then he cancelled.

I have no time for these so called 'new" sellers who know exactly how to cancel a transaction and relist when it suits them.

I wonder if this practice by sellers are common. Ebay should do something about these sort of things from happening as it would not inspire any confidence for ebay buyers

I would not say it is the norm, but it isn't exceedingly rare either. Occasionally happens, I would say.

Ebay has to allow cancellations as things can happen-items can break or go missing etc, we live in an imperfect world.

Being honest though, it is probably more common for sellers to cancel because they are out of stock, or because they are wary of the buyer or there has been a mistake of some kind in the listing eg sold to someone overseas when the seller wanted an Australia only sale. Or because they wanted a higher price.

Unfortunately, you've struck a brand new seller, not only brand new at selling but not a buyer either, by the looks of things. They have been fairly incompetent with their listing or else had seller's remorse straight after you bought.

Once there is a sale, a seller can't go around telling you that some things in the ad won't be included. That is a non-no, so they at least did the right thing to cancel and refund.

They have obviously decided they were selling too cheap and can do better. Time will tell.

If it is any consolation, if they cancelled with the reason they were out of stock or whatever, I think they still have to pay ebay fees. Plus they may end up with no sale this time around too. I hope they realise that $780 is not a reserve price. The thing is, new sellers should read up all the help pages before they list but as you have seen, many don't and make a hash of it. And if they are not in managed payments, they may not end up with payment either.

Don't worry too much, just move on & be careful who you buy from. Ideally, look for someone in Australia and with good feedback and some experience. Some new sellers are okay though, it is just you struck a dithery one.
