What is you question for other members?

The regulars here know better than to buy anything electric from any random seller on eBay

Did you buy it?

Is the seller an authorised seller?

Are they in China?

I'm not going to watch a Youtube video, thanks all the same

Then again, as I said, I would not risk buying such a thing off a random seller

I care more about my safety and of those around me

I posted this here because I had already spoken to someone at ebay. I was told that the information I provided would be passed on to the ACCC. It was suggested that while waiting for action from them I could post here. I'm a Patreon member of bigclive so I see his videos about a week early. In his video he mentions that it was bought from ebay UK. I had a look to see if it was being sold on ebay Australia. There are a few sellers of the product with an Australian plug. The most obvious problem with it is the flex wire is copper coated aluminium. As if !!!

eBay won't have passed the information on to anyone.

In fact this is what the ACCC say:

"As host, you should make sure the businesses on your online marketplace are complying with product safety laws and selling safe products. This helps protect consumers from harm"

Refer the agent to eBay's Policy which is:

As from 2nd May 2025

The following types of items are not allowed:

Products where the sale of the product is prohibited by law or regulation, including products failing to comply with Australian Mandatory Safety Standards

Here's mine. Any electrical item purchased from an eBay seller, (especially Chinese and dropshippers)

that doesn't meet Australian Mandatory Safety Standards may:

1) Burn down your house which insurance policies won't cover

2) Kill you and your entire family

We believe you about dangerous electrical products, you're preaching to the converted.

I'm not sure why you were directed to post here but suspect they were just trying to fob you off.

Ebay has quite a few sellers who list counterfeit products, claim to have warranties that don't exist once the buyer tries to make a claim, as well as all sorts of potentially dangerous electrical items that don't comply with Australian standards. Buying anything electrical (especially from a Chinese seller) is a risky business.

I know you're trying to be helpful and get the message out, but we're a smallish group here and a lot of Australian buyers are oblivious. They never look at these boards.

As for ebay, I am guessing they have looked into all the legal liabilities, which is why they have the policy that sellers should not list items that fail to comply.

But I don't expect to see them actually do anything, they're not going to investigate each ad. Until such time as regulations make ebay itself more liable, you will keep seeing those ads.
