I bought an item covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee.

Item was expected to arrive on 26 Nov.

Waited until 11 Dec to give it a fair chance to arrive an open a case with customer service.

Seller responded today (16 Dec) saying he can see some movement in the tracking.

eBay suspended the case for 10 days and refuse to refund.

3 weeks lat, no item, What is the actual meaning of eBay Money Back Guarantee?

No it's not a scam, BUT you need to keep an eye on the dispute and escalate it as soon as you can, otherwise it will time-out.

According to Aftab from customer service while there is a "movement" in the tracking they won't refund me.

And so, with some "movement" the item can be 3 month delay and still no refund. What is actually guarantied by eBay Money Back Guarantee?

It means you need to understand what it is and how to use it

How do you mean you 'opened a case with customer service'?

An item not received dispute is something the buyer opens themselves

You say you opened a 'case' with customer service

So did you actually open a dispute or did you just contact eBay and told them it had not arrived?

And usually if the seller is unable to provide valid tracking, they don't get a say

If the item was due to arrive by the 26th November, and you opted to allow another 2 weeks, it seems highly unlikely it was posted on time

Where was the item coming from?

Where is the seller registered?

Was the item being sent from overseas?

Did you pay with an eligible payment method, or did you pay via bank transfer directly to the seller?

Yes, has tracking. but tracking was stagnate for 2 weeks and they just update it so it seems it keeps moving.

Agree, highly unlikely posted on time.

Suppose to come from Australia.

Do you agree that under those conditions I should get my money back?

You want other members to try to help you, and we have no way of knowing what you bought from where, how you paid or anything else

It is irrelevant what I bought, from where and how I paid.

The point is I bought an item on eBay from a Top Rated Seller and the order was confirmed with expected ETA up to Nov 26. Now is Dec 16 item has not arrived. Should I get my money back?

How you paid is relevant as already said, because some payment methods are NOT covered by the MBG.

Incorrect. The policy says "you must pay via eBay checkout using an eligible payment method."

I paid at the checkout. I don't know any other way to order items on eBay.

As has been said, the eBay MBG isn’t a scam.

It is, however, very rigidly defined in its T&Cs and the application of its timeframes and its specifics.

There wouldn’t get any point in telling you that you’re covered if:

you paid by bank transfer or cash

you aren’t in good standing as defined by eBay

you bought a digitally delivered item

you arranged for a courier to pick up the item

the item wasn’t listed in a category where the MBG is offered

it’s past the 30-day timeframe for opening a dispute

seller hasn’t resolved the issue but you closed the case, or

seller hasn’t resolved the case and you haven’t asked eBay to step in, and case has now timed out.

That’s why some context or clarification might be needed to answer your question.

I’ll just add that there are some (not many, but done) instances where eBay has not covered a buyer even though they should. This may include instances of fake tracking numbers, or tracking showing delivery (but it’s the wrong tracking number / one going to a different address), etc. These are as I’ve said rare.

If you follow up with eBay CS, try always to get hold of a live supervisor rather than a bot, and be prepared to patiently and politely explain that the EDD (estimated delivery date) is already well past. Reiterate this point with the utmost courtesy as needed.

The seller cannot update tracking. That is for the carrier to determine.

As others have said, if the item is late open an Item Not Received case. In the meantime read the FAQs about the MBG.

Please enlighten me. What way you know I can pay at the checkout which is not eligible payment method?

I'll presume it's the seller you left negative feedback for and even if it's not, another top rated seller with poor feedback for not delivering or late delivery

A LOT of the 54 negs mention it.

I haven't even checked the 162 neutral

It's starting to become a problem with eBay siding with this type of seller so if it is this seller, PUSH eBay to do something through the dispute or talk to a supervisor.

Let's assume I'm familiar with all the above and the situation is: my purchase met all the requirements.

The only thing between me and refund is that there is some activity on the tracking system.

I think as ETA passed by 3 weeks I should be qualified for Money Back.

eBay says wait a bit longer.

I think it makes the system unreliable as you can't trust ETAs.

What do you reckon?
