I buy a vintage item from the seller. He carefully packs the internal items in bubble wrap. He then wrapped the vintage box in bubble wrap and then boxed for shipping. EBay then received the item and took all the bubble wrap off and chucked the vintage box just into another bigger box and sent it to me????

Predictably the vintage item arrived sounding like a baby’s rattle!!!!!! After opening the box the vintage item was smashed, items missing and the vintage box in pieces 🤬🤬🤬🤬

what the hell is going on eBay!!!! And why does no one care at eBay. I have to start everything with PayPal to get action.

Well let’s all start with an explanation as to why it was sent unprotected for international shipping by eBay after being well protected by the seller! What is the point of re-packaging by eBay when it was always protected by the seller?

money back guarantee is a joke and a rort! Of the recent three actions I’ve had to take against eBay with PayPal, one was a seller who never sent the item and refused to communicate. After starting a case with eBay for my money returned, the case was determined in favour of the seller…WTH!!!! I then had to take the time and ring PayPal to get them to reverse the decision with Fleabay. The PayPal representative said it was a wrong and unfair decision by the robots at Fleabay! Nice corporate greed Fleabay!

@deahun38,

You were rude to a low-level employee who was neither responsible for the item being broken nor had the authority or ability to resolve the issue. By nature of that person’s employment, he/she could not respond as they no doubt felt. You took advantage of the employee who had to take whatever you hurled at them on the chin. That’s unfair.

I’m sorry that your vintage (rare?) item arrived broken. You deserve a refund.*

The repacking issue is a problem; perhaps sellers of items that require careful packaging to avoid damage in transit could lay a large sheet of paper on top with an explanation of the packaging …? No one here would argue that the poor repacking is indicative of care or thoughtfulness. Unfortunately eIS involves opening of packages by third party employees who need to check items to ensure they meet shipping requirements, and I can well imagine they work at speed without always taking due care with repackaging.

Did you buy while logged in to eBay.com rather than logged in to eBay.com.au? (This is an important point.)

* Anyway, it’s a moot point for this transaction as you’ve already opened a PayPal dispute. Once you have done that, the MBG no longer covers that transaction. PayPal will no doubt refund you.

That being the case, you contacted eBay CS reps on Live Chat simply to abuse them and to demand an apology which you stomped upon anyway. In my opinion, you should never throw invective at someone who’s not in a position to answer back. It’s not a level playing field.

But I am still empathetic about your disappointment re the broken item. I can offer a suggestion to avoid this, from my own experience of ordering items from sellers overseas. Use a trustworthy parcel forwarder with whom you can communicate (to ask for extra packaging, particular care, etc), so that the seller can send domestically to that parcel forwarder. Parcel forwarder will open parcel to check item, and take photo of item. Item will be packed back up as it was, or with extra bubble wrap, etc. Item will be insured. If getting the particular items is important enough, the cost will be worth it (but note it will almost certainly cost more than if it goes via eIS).

I can understand your frustration.

But I think you're going about things the wrong way.

You know very well that most matters on ebay are automated and that includes your early communication in chat.

What you need to do is stick to the point. The point was, your item was received completely broken, you can provide photographic evidence and you want a full refund. You could add the bit that you were unhappy as it was inadequately packaged, but that is all, don't go into immense detail.

Most of your part of the chat consists of complaining about how awful ebay is, how ebay is greedy, that ebay has lost its way, that you are disgusted with ebay and so on. These are opinions and irrelevant to your actual claim. A lot of airy fairy puff.

You want a refund because your item arrived broken, due to inadequate packaging. Stick to that.

All the rest of your chat is muddying the waters and the ebay employee is having to work hard to sort out what the actual issue is and get to the point.

Never open a paypal claim while the ebay claim is in progress. You just effectively closed the ebay claim.

Your complaints about ebay will not be passed on by the rep.

You would have been better to let the ebay claim play out till you got a full refund.

Look at it this way: If items are repackaged inadequately and enough of them end up breaking, then a lot of customers will open a claim for a refund. You would hope so, anyway.

If the refund rate goes up, the company itself will look into what they can do to cut losses. Or ebay will put pressure on to lift their game.

Your rants and complaints in your ebay claim won't make an impact (although I do think occasionally some reps scan the boards here) but money talks. So always just push for a full refund, as that is the best way to hurt them and cause them to investigate change.
