As it is only a difference of $2.00 just leave it to run. If someone else bids your bid will only go up incrementally so the most you will end up paying if you win is $10.00 or you may only end up paying $6.00. For $2.00 why would you bother?

I have the same puzzle. Because I assume there are no ways to cancel my maximum bid I ask myself to be very careful.

If it is the difference of $2 of course leave it. What if I mistakenly put in $100 rather than $80 while the current bid is only $60? Can someone change his maximum bid by re-entering it or something? It makes sense (and I think it is technically possible) for ebay to develop intelligence to detect the bidder's desire.

you cannot really 'mistakenly' put in $100 rather than $80 as when you put in your bid, you get the 2nd window asking you to 'confirm' you would of course check that before hitting the confirm button

a genuine 'mistake' in bidding is usually when someone wants to bid ten dollars ($10.00) but accidentally bids one thousand dollars because they miss the decimal point. That is a mistake. but $100 instead of $80 is NOT A MISTAKE

you bid $10 that is what the seller is ''entitled '' to so you are right, they will not get MORE than they are entitled to, but they may get the whole $10 if bidding continues, which is why you need to make your decisions on your hard earned cash before not after bidding.

So very helpful . . . .

The question was "Can I reduce my bid down to $8', not

"Should I care about spending $2 more than I wanted"

or

"Is it my fault that I bid more than I wanted"

or a commentary on either of these.

OP you can not change your bid. but as others have said you can retract it and then place a new bid with the "correct" amount, depending on the amount of time the auction has to run.

I have accidentally entered the incorrect amount loads of times, I think it is easy to inadvertently make a mistake.
