Seller wont refund

Hello everyone,

A friend is in a pickle. They won an item paid for it. It was a local buy about 3-5 day deliver max. after 2 weeks they contacted the seller who said the address was wrong and the item was retuned back to them( a text was sent out to resend the item at the same address and was text the address). That was well over 3 months now and the seller keeps saying they have deposited the amount into the buyers account, well not really as he did today, he did yesterday and will do tomorrow. The seller throws in an excuse he is having dinner the bank was closed we will do it via net banking, has the bank details, put the money in didn't put it in etc etc. The seller has removed his ebay account this week now. He still is making excuses for not been able to deposit the amount owned to the buyer. It was not paypal it was bank deposit. The seller did send an email but it was not through ebay used a private email with his banking details so the only info we have is the text messages. Should we call it theft and go to the police.

Never pay into a bank account as you have no protection.

The most you can do now is go to the online fraud police.

In future for your "friends" protection ONLY pay with paypal and all ways open a dispute with in the 45 days of payment being made to get the money back.

well I take it only people who are selling are reading this post and as a person who is selling I am also asking you for you opinion. Yes it is theft so as a seller I would love to hear from you don't dismiss it. It might be just ebay but what this seller is doing is theft and how many more has he stolen from to pay for his dinners etc. Theft/scams ebay or not I am asking ebay first and want to hear from you.

thank you spark for your input.. many men don't like to use paypal etc they trust the seller unlike woman who will look at their sales etc..

If you have a problem with a transaction like this online you can contact the Queensland online fraud squad.

They state that it's the Queensland online fraud squad but they handle all of Australia

I am a man and I can assure you I trust Paypal a hell of a lot more than I would trust somebody I have never met. And I would certainly not give them money for nothing, as your 'friend' has done.

Send them an email telling them if the money isn't in your friend's bank account by Wednesday, you they will take the matter to the police.

Then do so. Make sure you they have copies of all correspondence to give to the police, but unless they are an amateur scammer, your 'friend' is unlikely to get the goods or the money.

Theft/scams ebay or not I am asking ebay first and want to hear from you.

Ebay staff don't read these boards-only members like yourself.

thank you all for your input. I think over 3 months we did give the seller plenty of time but instead he thinks its a joke and his connections are higher up. Its ppl like this that give sellers a bad name on ebay. For over several months its a cat and mouse game the seller makes excuses says the money has been deposited but hasn't and the seller wont give out the info for us too deal with the bank so really the seller never did deposit the money. Thank you all for the links.

I will be back to let you all how it went.

I think we all know how it will turn out. If the seller has played you along for this long he is unlikely to take any notice of anything you say now.

You can report it to the on line fraud squad but this will not get your money back.

Just use this as an expensive lesson and open a paypal account...and use it.
